I have programmed a bunch of .php scripts (altogether called "phpBB backup suite") which will help you to create backups fast and easy. This backup suite is part of my security tips at IMO → How to protect your phpBB forum against hackers Every webmaster who runs phpbb should use my program to create backups. What does my php program do?

To run cron jobs (= automatic backups) you should call the scripts like this: To make a MySQL backup:
To make a file and folder backup
To make a binlog backup
You will also have to set the frequency (= how often you want a backup to run). Check your cron manual how to do it. posted by knn |

well i was gona sign up on your site, but it seems your register system is faulty seeing as it wont let me sign up. --------------- i downloaded the Back Up Suite and was on the htaccess-protectthisfolder.php page. I type in a desired user name and password, hit submit, it just refreshes it self. All directory's and files in backup are 777. Thanks, kyle posted by kjcdude |

Nice, some of the hosting providers are cutting wget access though so this wouldn't work. Here's a link to some stuff I put together: Basic unix scripts that can be cron'd. posted by retorq |

Feature Request: Is there a simple way to add on to the busql.php file to have the php mail function automatically send the dump file to a specified email account? For example, my 80M database exports and compresses to about 7M, seeing as gmail is so generous with disk space they would make for a good 'off-site' backup location for such critical files, heck even complete file backups would be doable for smaller sites. I've been looking at the function but don't quite follow the method to set an attachment to the email to send. Thoughts? Bad idea maybe? I'm full of what I think would be useful ideas but not experienced enough to actually implement them myself...yet! But with yours and many others help I'm getting a better understanding. posted by dakar |

My database backup is over 118 meg, is there a better way to import than thru myphpadmin or the phpbb restore? That 51meg limit is killing me! Thanks, Mike Sullivan posted by KoolBear |

I seem to be having the same problem as "LearyFan." I am running version 1.3.2 and I have my folders set to 777. The MySQL file is not in the backup folder and can not be downloaded like all_files and avatar files. Joe posted by josephezell |
