This was an illustration I did for one of my papers on dinosaurs. Basically, I was trying to prove that primates could have evolved from dinosaurs. The image on the left is the skull of a male baboon (Papio hamadryas) and the image on the left is the skull of a dinosaur (Deinonychus antirrhopus). The numbered points are called synapomorphies, meaning points of similarity in form. Here are the names of the numbered features: 1, maxillary fenestras (Deinonychus) and infraorbital foramens (Papio;) 2, antorbital fenestra (Deinonychus) and maxillary depression (Papio;) 3, upper lacrymal crests (Deinonychus) and supraorbital ridges (Papio). Just to put this in cultural context, the dinosaur whose skull I draw is the same one called Velociraptor in the novel and movie [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by holy_of_holies |
