Dick Dale's "Misirlou". Forged a connection between east and west through music. Eastern melody, western instrument and style. posted by holy_of_holies |

It's the song heard in the first scene of Dick Dale adopted the tune as a virtuouso guitar piece when he began to perform for the southern California beach crowd in the late 1950s. Dale has said his guitar style was influenced by the music he heard played in Armenian families he grew up with. "Misirlou" was already well-established as an exotica standard by then, but either inspiration is credible posted by holy_of_holies |

I don't know why you guys are all Nirvana hating they are really good, Seriously that's like the only musical thing me and HK disagree on. You have much to learn young Padawan. I don't hate Nirvana, I'm just sick of a lot of the songs, I can enjoy a song everynow and then. They really were pretty overrated though. If you want really good solos, don't listen to Nirvana heh. I'm not saying they're bad, I'm just saying they're not really accomplished solos. Check out Joe Satriani though, his songs are just long guitar solos heh. There's other good instrumental guitarists, but my favourite stands at Joe Satriani. Yngwie Malmsteem is worth checking out too. I listen to way too much metal, blues and rock to decide on the greatest guitar solo. Angus Young had some pretty good solos, so did Hendrix and Page though. And Stevie Ray Vaughan.. Even Metallica had some good solos. And Lynyrd Skynyrd had some great solos. I can't decide yet... too many things to consider. posted by hungarian kid |

You're No Different by Ozzy Osbourne. Nice Randy Rhoads solo. And S.A.T.O has a cool solo too. Heh but with Randy Rhoads, choosing a solo is pretty hard. One I have to definitely mention is Master of Puppets by Metallica, used to play that solo over and over in my head... but I'll try and think of better things than that... Flying in a Blue Dream by Joe Satriani has a nice solo... but choosing from Joe Satriani is fucking hard. High Hopes by Pink Floyd has a good solo. Ummm... I'll list some Daron Malakian (System of a Down) solos that are brilliant Roulette Revenga Streamline Spiders Highway Song None of them are terribly difficult to play, but they all sound great. Whoa... and definitely check out the solo in Burning Angel by Arch Enemy, I recommend that without any hesitation. posted by hungarian kid |

hungarian kid: You have much to learn young Padawan. Couldn't agree more My favorite guitar player is by far Joe Satriani. By far the best guitar player ever. Yes, better than Hendrix in my opinion. Here's a list of some of my favorite Joe Satriani songs: Surfing With The Alien Satch Boogie Flying In A Blue Dream The Extremist Friends Why War Summer Song Crushing Day Borg Sex Crystal Planet Ceremony Lights Of Heaven Until We Say Goodbye The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing Starry Night Try to get some of these songs and learn what a good guitar solo is! On The Electric Joe Satriani: An Anthology ♣ he writes a small paragraph on all the songs included. We wrote that one of the only songs he has to rehearse on a daily basis if he's gonna play it live is The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing. Listen to it and you'll know why. posted by Echelon |
