I have been watching all those councils regarding Saddam and statements and hearings and interviews.

Where I think Saddam has failed: He has failed because the US has the better propaganda (e.g. Fox News is fantastic, biased but incredibly good).

I believe if Saddam had a better PR machinery (e.g. nice looking female represenatives, good modern news...) he could have hindered the US to attack, or to attack so fast.

It's not over 'till it's over

From the start, it was clear (to some of us) that Saddam would go for the sympathy vote. He might not be the best leader in the world, but he's not stupid.

Perhaps he overestimated the strength of Arab support, perhaps he was hoping for intervention from elsewhere, but I suspect he had a fairly good idea he couldn't withstand an attack. And like many of us, knew invasion was inevitable.

If he'd refused to submit his Al-samood missiles at the eleventh hour, it would have been seen as provocation, instead he complied, reducing his countries defences yet further.

By rolling over and letting the U.S. make the first agressive move, he is seen (by some) as the victim.

If this is the case, you have to ask what his long term plans were. To slope off quietly when everything quietened down or something much more sinister.

Another aspect of the "world view of the USA" is that they are over confident. The number of times they secured the Airport in Iraq seems to back this up.

I would hate to think that they've called it quits premeturely with regard to Saddam Hussain.

Just because the USA says this war is over, doesn't mean Saddam and his followers believe it to be so.

perhaps it was his ploy all along

saddam hates america...he knew he could never defeat them by military means

so he makes the world believe he has weapon which he didn't

so the US invade and are made to look like idiot and the terrorists go to town on them

maybe this should be in the conspiracies section
