knn: Psychiatrist made him a mashed potato! knn: Please note, that this might be drug related, since you get psychopharmaka from your psychiatrist for your mental "disease". Drugs are known to make "cry babies" that succumb to the slightest form of counter-effort. Thus driving them back into the arms of their drug pusher (the Men in White). knn: Sleuthslayer speaks about himself in the third person because his psychiatrist/drug pusher committed suicide to not go to prison because of child molestation. knn: I don't see any difference between a plumber and a psychiatrist. They both have no clue whatsoever about what makes humans tick. OK, I take it back. The plumber has more clue.
Considering that all of those amoking kids have been psychodrugged before they went on their killing spree, it is more likely that psychiatry causes the problem rather than solves it. You are entitled to your opinion, knn, and you are a good programmer from what I have seen of your sites. However, I just wanted to let you know that I went to see my psychiatrist (nothing to worry about, just a monthly checkup) and he has never tried to force me to take anything unless I had previously signed myself in to the hospital. In outpatient psychiatric care, the point is often to help the patient take as few medications as possible. That is, the medications often have some side effects which are painful or distressing, while not necessarily dangerous, so the psychiatrist works with the patient to manage his/her symptoms. I am really not on that much medication right now...that's the way we both want it. Often patients are brought to the hospital by the police when they are obviously incapacitated and need help instead of being put in jail. Check out this article from my hometown newspaper and you'll see a typical instance of this situation: The focus for Florida State coaches remains the health of Wyatt Sexton. But offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden knows that he'll in time have to make a decision regarding the quarterback situation after Sexton's erratic behavior last week landed him in a Tallahassee hospital...Sexton started seven games last season and was expected to start in the season opener against Miami on Sept.5. But that was before Tallahassee police found Wyatt Sexton in the middle of a street in front of some friends' house exhibiting bizarre behavior. What they don't tell you here is that they pepper-sprayed and handcuffed him first, and then took him to get help. In the hospital (I was just there for my checkup) people are very friendly and easygoing, except for the orderlies, who sometimes act like thugs. That is because they are the "muscle" of the situation (you sometimes have violent people in the hospital). But the psychiatrists are educated and nice, cracking jokes etc. So I say the problem with the mental health system is the cops and the orderlies who knock you around before and after you "get help", not the psychiatrists, who after all, are providing a service to people who feel they need it. It's not a religion, and there's not much science involved in the practice of psychiatry: it's about educating and helping people. I would go so far as to suggest that given what we know about mental disorders, and the amount of people the US has incarcerated for minor or drug offenses usually linked to substance abuse and/or psychosis, what we really need are more psychiatric hospitals and fewer cops and prisons. IMO, of course. Because all a cop does is take someone to jail and maybe testify against them; a psychiatrist is reponsible for rehabilitating people, making them better than they ever have been. And trust me, the problem is only going to get bigger as society becomes more stressful. In the old days before psychiatry, I guarantee you I would not be able to write this now, because I would be locked up or dead. Not that I ever engaged in terribly reckless behavior, but I've been being treated for five years now, and not a single time have I gotten in trouble that I could not easily extricate myself from. That's a much better record than I had in high school, when I moped around all the time because I wasn't a rock star or whatever. See, my problem was just that I got knocked around a lot when I was a kid, plus a family history of mental illness. So I just looked around and all I saw was violence: violent tempers flaring up and people hurting each other. And I have rarely hurt anyone physically; never caused an injury. It was more like I was hurting myself by not engaging with life. posted by holy_of_holies |

When Lauer mentioned Cruise's earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants, Cruise told the "Today" show co-host he didn't know what he was talking about.
"You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise said. The interview became more heated when Lauer, who said he knew people who had been helped by the attention-deficit disorder drug Ritalin, asked Cruise about the effects of the drug. "Matt, Matt, you don't even -- you're glib," Cruise responded. "You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That's what I've done." posted by holy_of_holies |
