So I don't keep a dream journal or anything but last night I had a weird dream. It was like there was this secret society of people who worked, or had worked, in grocery stores. And there was this guy named "Grisby" who everyone seemed to have enormous respect for, like "Oh when Grisby was boss here, things ran like clockwork!" But outside the groceries stores there were like bazaars, sidewalk markets and things, and I kept walking through these looking for some chocolate, because for some reason I knew that this would be the best chocolate ever. But I kept getting stuck in this one market stall with this hippie guy who was playing an acoustic guitar and saying things like, "Yeah I have people sit out here for days with me, playing guitar." It was really kind of a sad dream, because it seemed to point out to me the stupidity of how subcultures develop, and the funny thing was that the "grocery store" people seemed to be totally oblivious of the huge bazaar right outside their door. And if you've ever worked a really low-end job, you know that there is a lot of weirdness that goes on behind the scenes - sex in bathrooms, drugdeals, etc. Anybody else have any dreams they remember? posted by holy_of_holies |

I had a dreambreak occur for about half a min. then i woke up. the only thing i could try to do was jump and see how high I could jump. I WAS going to jump out the window (i was working in an office in a skyscraper), but I was afraid I might feel the pain, eventhough I knew I would'nt be hurt. Kinda odd Didn't we have a dream thread before? I guess this is more specific. My scariest dreams are those with people I know well: one of my best friends, my sister, grandmas. That's it. posted by sangu |

I've been experimenting with my dreams lately. I can sometimes fully know it's a dream, there's a trick to it. Say, turning on and off a lightswitch, if nothing happens it's a dream (within reason.) I havn't been working on that lately though, instead I've been going to sleep with music on. The music comes into the dreams, and alters them depending what the song's like. This morning dreamt I was on a beachy sort of house thing with some people, they all branched off to do stuff but they were coming back, and I strayed back for a second and then this sort of god thing started haunting by sending local demons at me. It was scarey as hell, so I ran back to some people at a table and I noticed a golden orb spider on the way, and my friend is scared shitless of them (I kind of am.) And I was telling him that there was one coming behind me and he was like "where?" and then it was under his hand "it's right there" and then I woke up, and this whole time Neukoln by David Bowie was playing in the background, eerie and creepy as hell. When I woke up the song was still playing, like there was a point of semi-awakeness, the song kept playing from the dream when I woke up. It sort of links being awake and dreaming, like sort of logging out from an MMORPG, it's hard to explain. Goodbye Sober Day by Mr. Bungle put a pretty funny part in one of my dreams, and High Hopes by Pink Floyd just put in a part where everyone was sitting around a table and then everyone could hear the solo playing and they were trying to figure out which song it was and I was getting frustrated that they wouldn't listen to me saying it was High Hopes by Pink Floyd. There was a huge torture scene in a dream while Lies by Korn was playing, and I just got sick of the torture and stood in the middle of the room where the torture was going on and just started headbanging. I'm gonna keep experimenting, try different types of songs, see how different things alter my dreams. posted by hungarian kid |

Okay I have been having f-ed up animal dreams lately; last night I dreamed that I was sleeping on a couch at the bottom of a very deep pool, and a Giant Isopod swam down and landed on my face...then in the same dream my cousin was married to a lion! She told me a story about her and this lion that said that the lions in her husband's group had hallucinogens on their fur that would rub off on the branches of the thornbushes when they brushed against them...and she would hallucinate because the thorns would scratch her and get the hallucinogens in her blood. Bizarre. [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by arkhamite |

knn: You should start to make movies. Nice dream. Thanks now that I think of it the lion part probably comes from an argument I used to have with my father about evolution: I would ask, why don't lions have venom to kill their prey? Kind of similar...plus that fits in with the isopod part, because one time when I was a kid he had a giant isopod in his lab... posted by arkhamite |

Have any of you had recurring dreams? I have a set that seem to repeat themselves periodically, even after I have forgotten the details of the dream. Once I dreamt we were having class (this was in sixth grade), and suddenly we were transported to a little cabin/room and were told that our next assignment was waiting outside. We walk out and see a vast stretch of ocean, and as though I know what to do I just plunge in and start swimming. I just go on and on and suddenly I see this big lumpy thing floating in the water - a bronze Buddha/Mahavir statue (I'm not a buddhist/jain, never was and never will be) and suddenly my main concern now is to tag it along with me. I reach into the dress I'm wearing and get a huge rope and tie it around the statue and start swimming with it like the lifeguards drag their bouyant support thingies, and reach the other shore. It ends there. I've had the same dream in sixth, ninth and eleventh grade. I've recently also begun experiencing something else that I've never experienced before - just as I am about to fall asleep an image of me falling pops into my head and I "wake up" feeling like I was falling (like the inertia of your body being left behind) and rudely stopped. It isn't as recent as I've joined imo though.. although if it was.. posted by ryder |

This has happened to me constantly since I was a kid. I don't know what it means...but there is a kind of half-waking sleep that my shrink told me about called hypnogogic sleep...where all people tend to hallucinate like this, even though they may not normally hallucinate... posted by arkhamite |

Have you seen Groundhog Day arkhamite? My dreams are completely different from my 'real life'. Once I dreamt that I was on a ship with a few of my classmates and teachers, including my school's vice-principal (she was no more than a person I'd seen, back then); this was a luxury cruise-liner for our 'group excursion'. And somebody yelled "bomb on board111" and we all go berserk and we start searching for the bomb and I find it and I call a classmate to defuse it and then I don't remember anything (maybe it exploded..). posted by ryder |
