holy_of_holies: [What is wrong is that you make historical pronouncements about American history (i.e. American involvement in WWII was too late to make a difference...) Howz that a statement about YOUR history? It is statement about BRITISH history that the Americans came into the war EXTREMELY late. By the time the Americans came into the war Hitler was already fighting on two fronts (ie. he had started attacking Russia). holy of holies: Do you know what document Jefferson is most famous for having authored (hint:your country would have killed him for it)? I have no idea what books he has written. As I already said, I have only heard him 'mentioned'. What the hell is a God-doctor? Surely you already know about my interest in theology from all my posts about Nietzsche? holy of holies: However sometimes Wiki gets it wrong...usually when pressured by fanatics into promulgating invalid views... You whine like a mule. Look mate, you are beginning to sound like Stinkz. Are you going to tell me what was undemocratic about the election I took part in earlier this year, or are you going to just call me names? If there was something undemocratic about it I would LOVE to know because I didn't want Blair elected myself (though I know plenty of people who did). posted by fatpie42 |

holy_of_holies: Do you know what document Jefferson is most famous for having authored (hint:your country would have killed him for it)? Yes holy_of_holies: However sometimes Wiki gets it wrong...usually when pressured by fanatics into promulgating invalid views. Ah, that would explain this then While Thomas Jefferson is popularly accredited with being the author of the Declaration, it is clear from the record that he was not its originator. posted by Marl64 |

I think popular accreditation should count for something when one signs one's own death warrant, don't you Marl64? Or am I missing something here? You act as though the British court which would have tried Jefferson as a traitor would have said, "Oh wait...he didn't really write all of it..." and let him off... Your crumpet-eating ancestors never did a damn thing to help the founders, especially Jefferson, who fought whole-heartedly any and all attempts to draw the US into Britain's sphere of influence...I inherit this role, and take it up wholeheartedly as Europe seeks to unite against the American empire once again...and the more cries of "imperialism!" you hear about American power, the more Europe and Britain marginalize themselves and turn into a breeding ground and fomentor of international intrigue and hatred...and a way station for terrorists coming into this country to sew discord... PS Fatpie, Stinkz is a shitkicking, apathy-smashing American, and I am glad I sound like him. posted by holy_of_holies |

Howz that a statement about YOUR history? It is statement about BRITISH history that the Americans came into the war EXTREMELY late. By the time the Americans came into the war Hitler was already fighting on two fronts (ie. he had started attacking Russia). Yes you may have a point. Britain lost WWII and would have lost it no matter what the Americans did because theirs was a stolen empire and a stolen preeminence...and you speak as though WWII happened in Europe alone...what about the Pacific, and the Feb 15,1942 surrender of British Singapore, arguably the blackest day in British military history...would you argue that the Russians and Europeans could have singlehandly defeated the Japanese empire while also fighting the Nazis? I guarantee you they don't teach you the Fall of Singapore in your history classes for the same reason they don't teach us the Battle of the Greasy Grass...it was a humiliation and a defeat of hubris! The Battle of Singapore was a battle of the South-East Asian theatre of World War II, from February 7, 1942 – February 15, 1942. The fall of Singapore represented the largest surrender of British-led military personnel in history. About 80,000 Indian, Australian and British troops became prisoners of war, joining 50,000 taken in the Malayan campaign. posted by holy_of_holies |

On June 11, 1776, a committee consisting of John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, Robert R. Livingston of New York, and Roger Sherman of Connecticut, was formed to draft a suitable declaration to frame this resolution. Jefferson did most of the writing, with input from the committee. His original draft included a denunciation of the slave trade, which was later edited out, as was a lengthy criticism of the British people and parliament. Sounds like they should have left that last part in... posted by holy_of_holies |

Sorry, I misread your post. But I don't think Marl64 gave the tone of thinking the British court would have 'let off' Jefferson... he was just pointing out that Wikipedia could be wrong. I think. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |
