We don't use the same computer.

Have you EVER used the same computer becasue that's what it calculates.
Agent Zero:
maybe because we are in the same area? would that be why the IPs show up as the same? its confusing.

AAARRRGGGHHH your story changes first you claim that of course we have the same IPS becasue thay are at my house right now and are using my computer now you are saying you have no idea why, give it up man.

IP addresses are assigned by your ISP and while some are static (the same computer keeps the same IP address), the majority of them are dynamic (You are allocated an IP address when you connect).

Dynamic IP is required because of the way the addresses are issued, there are more computers that connect to the internet than there are addresses for them.

A national Internet provider could allocate an address to a person at one side of the country on one day, then allocate the same address to a person at the opposite side of the country the next day. But in general, they don't as linking groups of IP addresses with geographical areas makes routing data easier.

In an ideal world, the IP address range would identify a specific area, and IP address a specific computer or sub network, but in reality it just point to the owner ISP, who allocates it as they see fit.

I have dynamic IP but my PC is connected 24/7 and though it can (and has) changed, my IP address stays the same pretty much all the time.

I don't offer this in support of anyone, simply as an explanation of the technology.

See your IP address

Also, your computer may have two IP addresses, an internal one and an external one.

To see the internal one (from windows or dos) open a dos-a-like window and type 'ipconfig' from windows XP/2K etc, get the properties of your connection up and choose 'support'

Also from XP you can choose details for information about your IP Lease (the time your allowed to use the IP address)

To see your external address, visit

As you can see from the samples, my IP is the same externally and internally which indicates my PC is not behind a firewall or gateway.

(I now buckle my seatbelt in preperation for knn moving these posts to the computer section White laugh)

Not could, have to.

Only one person can have the address at once, but as soon as you disconnect and release it, it can be realocated to someone else.

If you read the fine print of your terms, you should find mention of a "ratio", sometimes called "contention ratio" which describes how many clients share a connection.

Most UK domestic accounts have a ratio of 30:1 to 50:1, which means that there are 30 to 50 times more customers than available connections - be it IP addresses or bandwidth.

that's how they make money, by oversubscription.

Cable companies (such as mine) don't have the same problems as they already have their own infratructure in place and aren't "buying-in" connectivity from the local phone company.

For example, most DLS connection in the UK - (irrespective of internet provider) use BT lines, so being pissed with BT doesn't help, you get them anyway White laugh

Looks English to me White laugh

OK, you go swimming, you get a key to a locker so you can put your stuff away. When you leave the swimming baths, you give the key back and someone else gets it.

While you have the key, everything in the locker can be attributed to you. To all intents and purposes it is YOUR locker. But in reality, you share it with others.

THAT is you IP address, it's yours until it isn't

At the end of the week they clean the lockers and find traces of drugs in the one you used. This is the whole multi logon of Agent Zero thing.

Looking at basic facts you (and AZ) are to blame;

1) You used that locker
2) Drugs were in that locker

therefore

3) You use drugs

or for Agent Zero

1) Agent Zero uses IP address aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
2) a new user called 'SuckMyChod' uses IP address aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd

therefore

3) Agent Zero IS 'SuckMyChod'

however - as I was attempting to point out - this is oversimplistic and doesn't take into account the fact that the locker could have been used by more than yourself without you even knowing.

You might beleive (as is the case with IP addresses) that when you leave the swimming baths (Internet), the key (address) is kept for you and no-one else gets to use it.

This is not the case, when you're not online, someone else has their socks in your connection I learned something new, I guess

I didn't say that, I said it was possible

however..

If your IP address is consistantly the same week in, week out and the phantoms similarly always get the same IP address when you're not using it, then you're guilty as hell White laugh

or on a subnet with a shared IP I learned something new, I guess

They get issued it when they go swimming
If your already in the baths, they get another one 'cos you're using yours

Last night you told us that all those three new users were at your house for a party...which would make sense because all three were assholes.
