It seems that the bulk of the conservative Christian community claims that Harry Potter and Dungeons & Dragons are satanic, but feels that the rest are not (or does not address them). This seems strange to me, considering that all of these sources contain elements of the supernatural and address such concepts as good versus evil, the fulfillment of prophecy, death, and resurrection. So anyone want to postulate on why conservative Christians find Harry Potter and D&D to be satanic, but not the others? posted by Tiefling |

Tiefling: Christian community claims that Harry Potter and Dungeons & Dragons are satanic, but feels that the rest are not Well The Chronicles of Narnia were written by CS Lewis who was a Christian novelist so for some reason any magic he writes about is not Satanic Plus Harry Potter is an actual world full of magic with child murder,Occult prophecies. Tiefling: Dungeons & Dragons are satanic Magic and Monsters exposed to Children, for Christians magic is not just a fantasy for kids to have fun with it is a power brought by the devil and no matter how it is used (healing, love, protection etc) unless the "magician" is Christian he is proclaimed satanic. posted by Kupov |

You forgot "The Holy Bible". The bible may be satanic, since its followers caused so much pain as I write at IMO → What to say to someone who insists to pray#30572 and at IMO → Satan is the healer & Why do Christians look so evil? and at IMO → The bible is inaccurate and written by criminals and mad men and at IMO → God vs Serpent - the real story without bible smear campaign posted by knn |

knn: You forgot "The Holy Bible". The bible may be satanic, since its followers caused so much pain as I write at No that's wrong, satanic means they may have prayed to Satan, satan is their version of anti God so even if God is evil and satan is good they are still not satanic. And it does not matter how much evil magic they perform if it is truly in the name of Jesus then it is a miacle and if it is good magic in the name of any other god/goddess then it is witchcraft/occult/satanism and that equaks evil, which is silly because almost all pagan spells are meant to heal. I actually have a pagan friend who likes to bug my Christian friends by saying "If you do not watch it I am going to put a spell of protection on you" posted by Kupov |

Tifling why even include a poll it will obviously be either all votes for "none are satanic" with no votes for anything else, there are only a few Christians here and none of them are fundamentalists so none of them will vote like that. posted by Kupov |

I thought you agreed with yourself when you said 'satanic' implied 'pledging allegiance or praying to satan' I guess it was just semantics then.. sorry. Anything that involves an occult, or any means for humans to achieve power beyond what we possess now, is opposed by the Church then. *shrugs* posted by ryder |

ryder: I thought you agreed with yourself when you said 'satanic' implied 'pledging allegiance or praying to satan' Sure i did but since when has anythything I said changed Christian logic? never right. And only weirdos actually pledge allegiance to Satan, unless they are gnostic because to believe in Satan you have to believe in God and most people who believe in them both at the same time believe that Satan is immoral, i mean since when have we listened to the prisoner when he talks about the jailor? posted by Kupov |

knn: ? How does that relate to the poll? If Harry Potter may be satanic then so may be the bible. No because the Christians can claim all they want that pagans actually worship satan but you are using the word satanist to mean evil when in reality it means worshipper of satan, and even IF (most probably) they worship an evil God you cannot call it satanic. knn: It's not. Yep except then you will have Christians claiming the people who did perform the spell were not really Christians at all so it can be proclaimed as satanic also. posted by Kupov |

The question I'm asking in my post is, "Why do Christians feel some of these are satanic but not others, considering they all address similar elements?" Kupov: Tifling why even include a poll it will obviously be either all votes for "none are satanic" with no votes for anything else, there are only a few Christians here and none of them are fundamentalists so none of them will vote like that. I kind of assumed that everyone here would vote, "None are satanic." I put the poll here for two reasons: (1) In case passing Christians see the poll, I'm sure they'll want to vote. (2) I assumed knn would recommend I add a poll to this post, so I just decided to go ahead and put one in advance. posted by Tiefling |

ryder: Tiefling maybe you should quote some website that speaks of their ideas to this effect, their arguments, because I don't think anyone, including me, gets how they could argue that these media are satanic.. Very good idea. I've been re-reading the Harry Potter books recently. I was chatting with one of my family members, who happens to be VERY conservative Christian. Said family member implied that she would never touch the Harry Potter books because they're satanic. I didn't want to debate with her at a family gathering, but I couldn't help but wonder what logic had helped her reach such a conclusion. So I turned to google to find an answer. +"harry potter" satanic ♣ A bunch of results, including information on Harry Potter book burnings. Here are some quotes from some of these sites: For those of you who insist that the series is innocent fun, and even good for the children because it spurs them to read and expand their imagination, I would ask you to consider the following. First, since when has an international fad been wholesome? Usually anything truly of redeeming virtue is spurned by the world. Shouldn't that alone urge caution? Second, there are so many other books that also expand the imagination and promote reading, it is a pity to spend that energy on something that portrays witchcraft, scorcery, magic, and other occult practices as good. "Behind that innocent face is the power of satanic darkness," he said. "Harry Potter is the devil and he is destroying people." This site goes so far as to call Catholicism a satanic cult due to its approval of the Harry Potter books: Is it any wonder that the largest Satanic religion in the world endorses witchcraft? Not at all. Satan is hard at work friend, never needing a rest; never taking a vacation. The fact that the Roman Catholic Religion endorses witchcraft should settle any previous doubts in your mind as to the legitimacy of the Catholic Church. The Catholic religion is a fraud, an imposter, damning the untold souls of billions to a Godless eternity in the depths of the lake of fire.
Harry Potter is nothing short of wickedness, rebellion against God Almighty. The Bible condemns witchcraft... This site has all sorts of propaganda, including such claims that the Harry Potter books promote drug use, glorify evil, and pave the way for the coming of the Antichrist. It also claims that demons themselves put the idea of Harry Potter into Rowling's head. The world is headed for a worldwide invasion of demons and dark underworld creatures. It is all a part of the "One World Order." Remember, the Harry Potter series is already being printed in over thirty major languages. You can find just as many sites decrying Dungeons and Dragons as satanic, too. dungeons dragons satanic ♣ But interestingly enough though, if you do a search on these other sources, you'll not find results: +"star wars" satanic ♣ +"the matrix" satanic ♣ +"lord of the rings" satanic ♣ posted by Tiefling |

Please note that Christianity had always difficulties to explain why magicians came to worship the Jesus baby (the (wrongly) so called "3 kings" or "wise men"). Jehovah's witnesses go even so far as to claim that the Star of Betlehem, that led the magicians to Baby Jesus was sent by Satan. posted by knn |
