Sexual assault is any unwanted sexual contact or attention. It is an assault which can be caused by any force either physical or non physical. The force can take the form of threats, bribes, manipulation, or violance. It can be verbal, visual, audio, vaginal, anal, oral, or any other form which forces an individual to participate in unwanted sexual contact or attention. Sexual assault includes rape and attempted rape in the forms of date and acquaintance rape, marital rape, and stranger rape. It also includes child molestation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, incest, and harassment. Sexual assault can be committed by adults, children, males, females, strangers, friends, dates, acquaintances or relatives. Anyone can be sexually assaulted, regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, economic, ethnic, or religious heritage.
RAPE STATISTICS -In the U.S., 1.3 women are raped every minute. That's 78 rapes per hour. -1 out of every 3 American women will be assaulted in her lifetime. -1 in 4 collage women have either been raped or suffered attempted rape. -78% of rape victims know the attacker. -Rape has a devastating impact on the menthal health of victims. -31% of all victims develop Rape-Related Post Traumatic Disorder (RR-PTSD) sometimes in in their lifetimes. Based on U.S. Census reports on the number on women in the United States, 1.3 million women currently have RR-PTSD, 3.8 million women have had RR-PTSD and roughly 211,000 women will develop RR-PTSD each year. -Only 16 % of rapes are ever reported to the police. In a survey of victims who did not report rape or attempted rape to the police, the following was found as to why no report was made: -43% thought nothing could be done -27% felt it was a private matter -12% were afraid of police response -12% felt it was not important enough When i visited my grandma a few years ago in Hungary (East-Europe) it was all over the news that according to the statistics there was at least 1 woman raped by their own parnters (date, boyfriend, husband, etc.) every week in the year of 2002 in that country. posted by a |

Some feminists routinely refer to American society as a "rape culture." Yet estimates on the prevalence of rape vary wildly. According to the FBI Uniform Crime Report, there were 102,560 reported rapes or attempted rapes in 1990.[1] The Bureau of Justice Statistics estimates that 130,000 women were victims of rape in 1990.[2] A Harris poll sets the figure at 380,000 rapes or sexual assaults for 1993.[3] According to a study by the National Victims Center, there were 683,000 completed forcible rapes in 1990.[4] The Justice Department says that 8 percent of all American women will be victims of rape or attempted rape in their lifetime. The radical feminist legal scholar Catharine MacKinnon, however, claims that "by conservative definition [rape] happens to almost half of all women at least once in their lives."[5]
Who is right? Feminist activists and others have plausibly argued that the relatively low figures of the FBI and the Bureau of Justice Statistics are not trustworthy. The FBI survey is based on the number of cases reported to the police, but rape is among the most underreported of crimes... (...) For Gilbert, the most serious indication that something was basically awry in the Ms./Koss study was that the majority of women she classified as having been raped did not believe they had been raped... Read the whole thing, it's pretty interesting... I am a woman myself and I certainly condemn any form of rape or abuse; but I am also pretty suspisious when it comes to statistics. And I have a huge problem with making the individual responsible for something a certain percentage of their gender/race/fellow countrymen etc. do! Nope, not every man is a rapist; and as long a man's pushiness involves tenderness rather than violence, I'm quite ok with it... posted by tozy |

i have been sexually assaulted...several times, most recent was saturday night when a girl walked by and grabbed my ass. there have also been times when (with a girlfriend) i was not in the mood for sex and she was...we ended up having sex (so that i would not get on her bad side and she would not shut up about it)...is that considered rape? i mean...since it was unwanted and all because i know a pretty radical feminist who would say that IS rape...but only if the roles were reveresed and the woman is the one who is not in the mood or wanting sex and the man is. but when i say that i have been in that situation before, so in that case i have been raped also...she tells me that it doesnt count for me. posted by allone |

i wonder if that has anything to do with the idea that most people correlate sexual desires/activity/sex in general with maleness because all anyone ever seems to say about guys is that "All men think about is sex" "Men are more sexual than women" "women don't care about sex as much as men do" and so on...since society/media has branded men with this stereotype then that would lead men to assume this role? which might then lead people to think well, whenever sex is available (be it consentual or not) they'll take ...which also comes with the conception that men cannot possibly be raped by women (but they can be raped by men?) they would never be considered the victim...because its what they're always after... do you see what im trying to say? its not coming out right basically its like this: the "media" or "society" or "give it a name" created the idea that men love sex more than women correct? (that's a question not a statement) which wouldn't agree with a situation where a man called rape...cause why would he? cause...he'd like it and enjoy it and never be forced into it cause hes a man. so my question(s) is (are): do you guys equate females having non consentual sex with males having non consentual sex rape? or is there a difference for you (and if there is, is that wrong for us to think that way? because rape should be rape no matter who right? and if not why) secondly, if a man is has sex with another man without consent is that rape? is it more logical to call man/man "rape" and call man(victim)/woman "not the same as rape"? ps: the above is just a general question that i myself don't understand so im putting out the idea out there for feedback from you guys/girls posted by gkiss |

a: that's rape too allone. It's not. That's a typical feministic trick: Poisoning the relationships of men and women by redefining/exaggerating things. What's next? "Men are pigs. He looked at you sexually? Rape, Rape Rape!" posted by knn |
