»With Skype you can call anyone, anywhere for free, forever.«

It's a great software that if you & your friends download (for free), you can call each other on your computers through the internet for 100% free all over the world.
Please note that you need to connect a microphone to your computer to be able to speak to your friends & loud-speakers or headphones to be able to hear your friends.
If you want to, you can get more info about this software & you can download it at this site:

And? Which one is better?

My friends find it easier to use Google Talk because it is integrated with their Gmail id (=contacts get automatically added) and they promise new features and integration with other chat clients.

Quality: Both have the same quality with their free calling computer facility.

Features: Skype has the additional options of being able to call phones and get voice mail, but you have to pay for that. Google Talk doesn't offer all of that. Yahoo offers voice mail but the real-time relay of voice wasn't good. Both don't have Yahoo's offline messaging system, or it's selective online status facility.

Both are equally simple and fast to load. You can find other members on Skype by their location but you can only add email addresses to Google Talk.

Please note that since Goolgle (Google Talk) and Ebay (Skype) are US companies they are bound by US law = The NSA will record all your calls.

Thank you very much for that bit of info I learned something new, I guess Interesting though.
UH...i don't care,
I'm one of those people who don't' care if the entire bush government is listening in on my conversations. I know some people that are really uptight about it.

That's because you are young and (apparently) a "good" girl and have nothing to worry about. If you were a radical Muslim - which is a perfectly legal and protected view under US law - then you might feel differently.

Not necessarily only them. Me and my SO used to encrypt our mail on Gmail, simply because it was an intimate exchange that we would not want prying eyes to see, although the chances of that happening may appear small.

It's all about privacy - not only potential terrorists need it. What the...?

Pfft, is that true about the conversation recording? That would require an unbelievably large amount of infrastructure, wouldn't it? Too much of a pain to actually go through with, I'd've thought.

The NSA (National Security Agency) is unbelievably large. A lot of people didn't even know it existed before 9/11, when the government started publiciziing its wiretapping capability as a way of reassuring people.
But they do not record all phone calls; that would be impossible. They focus on individuals and groups who pose a security risk.

But...sorry I still fail to really see why. Wait, were you hiding it from parents/friends/annoying people? Or the government?

More silly - because google said emails may get stored on their servers indefinitely, even after the user deletes them. Thus they may be accessible to people who are interested in accessing them. Yeah yeah I can see you with the question mark but its just an extension of prying eyes syndrome.

They DO record phone calls as soon as certain words appear.

For example the word "bomb" would trigger the recording.

That might be true, but only in targeted individuals or groups. It is not the case that every electronic voice communication in the US is monitored for certain words. That would be impossible. And even if it were possible, it would be exceeding the mandate of the NSA.

White laugh And you surely know what the mandate is, don't you.

Until recently it was even denied that NSA existed ("No Such Agency") and now you claim to know NSA's tasks.

However: What I have said is stil true: Skype and Google Talk have to implement a "hack-in" feature for the US government. They have been asked to do so and they will do it.

Yes, I know basically what it is. But you don't seem to even know what a "mandate" is, much less how the concept applies to the NSA!
Witness:
knn:
Until recently it was even denied that NSA existed ("No Such Agency") and now you claim to know NSA's tasks.

You are dissembling. "Tasks" have nothing to do with mandate. According to Wikipedia a mandate is:
the authority granted by an electorate to act as its representative.

Mandate has to do with legal authority, not with any technical issue of how that authority may be exercised.

But even if you were on topic (White laugh), you still have not proven your case!
You argue this:
knn:

How does that prove this?
knn:
The NSA will record all your calls.

It doesn't prove that at all!
So let's see the evidence!
