Okay I'm not going to start a poll here because it would very likely come off as racist to give a limited number of poll choices, since there are so many different nationalities and ethnicities in the world. But anyway, what nationality or ethnicity do you think it would be most interesting to date? For me, it's Japanese girls. Not Japanese-American, but real native Japanese, because the race is not really the turn-on (though a lot of Japanese girls are very hot) but the culture. There's kind of refinement mixed with brutality and sensuality in Japanese culture that I find very exciting. I speak some Japanese and when I have talked to Japanese friends, sushi-bar waitresses, Disneyworld tourists, and the like, they seem impressed to be spoken to politely in their own language - plus they're not obnoxious if you make a mistake like the French, etc. I know two female Japanese students in my town (both married So what about you? holy_of_holies: For me, it's Japanese girls. Not Japanese-American, but real native Japanese, How likely is it though that a traditional Japanese family would even let their daughter date a caucasian American? A Japanese-American family is likely to be less rigid but not necessarily. How possible is it to "date" or to a further extent marry someone in their native country? In the US as least this seems more likely since people often seem to be American here first, especially people < 20 or so. i.e. Take 3 US people of various ethnicities that are into pop culture and music and such and it would be hard to tell them apart except for their physical features. What other countries is "racial purity" not a main factor in dating? Likely much of Europe, Australia, Canada, etc... But how does this issue differ there than in the US? posted by volonteshiva |

it doesnt really make much of a dif for me, but i tend to go for the european or mediterranean guys. italians, greeks, portugese, middle eastern, that general area. but yeah totally doesn't matter. but i do find that sometimes these guys come from the same background as i do, in terms of family values specifically, theyre very family oriented, big loud families, a lot of respect for tradition and all that...but that pretty much goes for all cultures really...but that's one thing that's really important to me, so i look for that and i find them more pronounced in these cultures. but again...doesnt matter posted by gkiss |

How possible is it to "date" or to a further extent marry someone in their native country? The Japanese are very internationalized when it comes to culture and race (maybe not in politics though), like many Americans. It would be like someone in an American household bringing home a Japanese girl. My family and my friends' families wouldn't care. Hell, my first date, in the eighth grade, was Chinese-American. volonteshiva: What other countries is "racial purity" not a main factor in dating? Likely much of Europe, Australia, Canada, etc... But how does this issue differ there than in the US? White Latin Americans (white Hispanics) tend to be hung-up on skin color and race in my experience. If you are tall and blonde, and you go to Latin America, you have an advantage, whether you are male or female. I know some Latin Americans would say, "No, no, not so," but I've been there and there is a huge legacy of that kind of thing in those countries. I don't know why. Even many Cubans from Miami are like that when they come up here for school. One time I was walking past a group of Cuban girls on campus and they were giving me wolf-whistles and stuff! And I am not like, buff or anything, just I look very "Anglo," as the Cubans say. I find that kind of thing, i.e. sexual objectification due to race, to be very distasteful. So that's my answer. posted by holy_of_holies |

One time I thought this girl was giving me wolf whistles, so I turned around all happy...it was just a wolf...wolfs are pretty fast, he got my arm...I just tell everyone I lost my arm in the war... Also I met some cubans and we got into a heated debate about whether or not sushi should be served in resteraunts...they don't seem to like white blonde people at all...or babies. posted by Kupov |

Sweet! I'm Lebanese and have a big, loud family! I'm in w/gkiss...oh wait, I'm off the market...damn. As for me, much like a, I dated pretty much every race, religion, and ethnicity there is...but, I guess Greek women were a favorite of mine. All of the ones I dated were very intellectual, could cook, and were extremely sensual. But, like Volonteshiva pointed out, their families got in the way...didn't want their daughters being involved w/a non-Greek...especially an Arab (even though I'm only 50%). posted by GP |
