»What's your favorite movie of all times?«

holy_of_holies:
No not weird; consider yourself blessed and beloved of the gods because you have not seen those films.

Why, yes, of course... after all, ignorance is bliss. Evil evil

What's your favorite movie of all times?

Admittedly I have not seen that many, and I don't have a 'single all time favourite' but so far I'd've to say (in no real order)

»Gladiator«
»Saving Private Ryan«
»The Matrix« (only the first one)

One More for Good Measure

I have one more favorite movie to add: »All the President's Men« starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, about reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein breaking the Watergate story to the public and bringing down President Richard Nixon!

The scenes with the crucial secret informant "Deep Throat" (played by Hal Holbrook Θ) have added significance now that "Deep Throat's" identity has been confirmed to be former FBI Associate Director Mark Felt Θ, whose identity Woodward and Bernstein kept secret for thirty years. Yes, oh yes.. keep going

Let's see...since I came here from MeX, I'm obviously a huge Matrix Trilogy fan. But, my other favortites include »Citizen Kane«, Kurasawa's »Ran«, »Le Samourai« (French film), and »Bull Durham«. No movie sums up life as a baseball player better than Bull Durham.

The Blue Max

I have yet another favorite, this one less well known than the other three I have named. It's »The Blue Max«, a World War I military aviation drama made in the 1960's and starring George Peppard and Ursula Andress. The film is a fictional story about German fighter pilots in WWI, and Peppard plays a peasant, Bruno Stachel, who finds his way into the mainly aristocratic leagues of the pilots. His primary goal is to get the Blue Max, the highest medal of German society, for which he has to shoot down 20 enemy planes, but Stachel faces discrimination due to the fact that he is a peasant unlike most of his fellow pilots. Andress plays a beautiful and married countess, Kaeti von Klugermann, who has an affair with Stachel.

There is a lot of history in this film and the flying scenes are amazing for the time. One interesting thing about the film is that one of the real-life fighter pilots who received the Blue Max during WWI was the "Red Baron," Manfred von Richthofen, who actually makes an appearance in the film, played by Carl Schell.

Sorry but I couldn't find any stills of the movie online, and I didn't feel like making any of my own tonight. Maybe later.

I've seen this movie...and yes, it's a very underrated film. Peppard was one of those actors that kind of flew under the radar and was underappreciated until towards the end of his career when he had the role of Hannibal on the »A-Team«. Alec Guiness falls into that category, as well...most people only think of him as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but he was great in a lot of movies. »Bridge Over the River Kwai« for instance.

That's good, when we're kids, my brother used to whistle that song a lot, though »Braveheart« is still my favorite war movie.

Hope Springs Eternal

This is my easiest 'arty-farty' question to answer: »The Shawshank Redemption«. I can't think of anything I don't like about the movie - great acting from everyone, great story, great score, great shots... Can't believe it's been stuck at '2' on the IMDb List for so long.

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King Θ is great (should I be penalized for using this word in one post too much? Yes, oh yes.. keep going ), but I personally prefer the changes Frank Darabont Θ made to the storyline.

Rocky I - If you are a male born in the early 70's you have to have this movie in your top five. There is no other movie that inspired me more (music), made me ask questions..."Dad, why did he lose?" or had me wanting to come back for more. Even II and III were moving, but not like the first. I watch it anytime I come across it on TBS. ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY!

I'm surprised - I would have thought that half of the posts here would be rants on how great The Matrix trilogy is... White laugh
seraphim:
The Matrix (the whole trilogy), without a doubt.

Hopefully more Matrix fans will join seraphim and I in this thread Aaah, is there anything better than to post here and to drink something

But Matrix 2 and 3 were such crap, and if not just "bad" then nothing more then adequate. But favorite movie of all time? That is hard.

Probably the movie the made the biggest impact on me was The Empire Strikes Back, but no that would not now be my favorite film.
...but I'll still say The Empire Strikes Back!
