Quote: Sorry that's just not going to cut it. I presented a lengthy and detailed synopsis of some of the current research involving mental illness, and just calling it tripe (what is tripe, anyway? ) doesn't make the research go away. No you didn't present anything worth reading. You alluded to some treatment working. If you want to be taken seriously, mention serious, peer-reviewed research that hasn't been funded by Big Pharma. posted by Francesca Allan |

Quote: You obviously didn't read what I wrote, and I see that you can't resist throwing a propaganda buzzword ("Big Pharma") in there for your intended audience of antipsychiatry activists. Big Pharma is hardly a buzzword. The public is very concerned about the influence of pharmaceutical marketing strategies. Quote: The science I presented had nothing to do with "some treatment working"! It had to do with the topic of this thread, "The Nature of Mental Illness" meaning its origins and cause. Which implies a whole bunch of other topics including involuntary treatment. Quote: I don't know and don't care who funded any of this research, And that's why you're a cretin. Drug companies have consistently suppressed negative test results. GlaxoSmithKline would not tell the FDA that one of their test subjects committed suicide on a new antidepressant until they were forced to do so. We should all be aware of Big Pharma's influence. Quote: and I assure you there is plenty of peer review before it is published. Actually, no. Studies are published prematurely and there is little, if any, true peer review. Quote: Also, I've had about enough of this offtopic bullshit. Then stop spouting it. Quote: Tell me Francesca: what causes mental illness? What causes insomnia? What causes sadness? What causes divorce? Your question is unintelligible. There is no one cause for the entire spectrum of human emotions. posted by Francesca Allan |

But unfortunately she is right. A study called "There is no proof for the danger of smoking" researched by Dr. Marlboro is not worth the paper it is written on. It is the typical modus operandi to prove what you want to prove

Francesca Allan: And it'll only get worse. In the USA, you've got thousands of infants on amphetamines now. Infants. Like under a year old. On Ritalin. Brilliant. They should forbid TV commericals for psycho-drugs. "Be a good mother. Buy Ritalin! Now with peppermint taste" posted by knn |

knn: Francesca Allan: And it'll only get worse. In the USA, you've got thousands of infants on amphetamines now. Infants. Like under a year old. On Ritalin. Brilliant. They should forbid TV commericals for psycho-drugs. "Be a good mother. Buy Ritalin! Now with peppermint taste" They should ban such advertising. It's completely fraudulent. Have you seen the latest for an antidepressant? Can't remember the name of it but it shows a bunch of smiling, happy people. What it really should show is someone trying to come off those drugs -- the rebound psychosis, the withdrawal, the misery. posted by Francesca Allan |
