You can find more where this is from From one angle/distance, the left image is of an angry man and the right of a calm woman. But from another angle/distance/if you squint your eyes, they switch places. The original website calls this "Dr Angry and Mr Smiles" but many other citations of the same do seem to agree that the 'calm image' is more feminine. On a close-up view, you can see on the left face, an angry man and on the right face, a woman with a neutral facial emotion. But further back, the faces change expression and even genders! if you squint, blink, or defocus, an angry man should substitute for the face of the woman and the left angry face should not be angry anymore.
This impressive illusion created by Dr. Aude Oliva and Dr. Philippe Schyns, illustrates the ability of the visual system to separate information coming from different spatial frequency channels. In the right image, high Spatial Frequencies (HSF) represent a woman w69, 243-ith a neutral facial expression, mixed with the low spatial frequency information from the face of an angry man. The above two ambiguous faces, termed hybrid faces, are published in the journal Cognition, 69, 243-265, 1999. Elsever publisher posted by ryder |

WHOA! I see it! That's pretty cool. I didn't see how the gender changed though... but it was definitely apparent that as you look at the pictures from a distance, their facial expressions sort of switch... posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

Scary! Sheez, that creeped me out. I was not expecting that because it took me AWHILE. i was just glancing back and forth and squinting and blinking to no avail. Finally I moved my chair back by like 10 feet, then i saw it and that was creepy. posted by sangu |
