Indestructible Object is a five song-EP put out by the songwriting duo They Might Be Giants in 2004 prior to the release of their newest album, The Spine . The only way I could find the songs from this EP was on Itunes, and at first I was torn as to whether I would buy Indestructible Object or The Spine , but I decided on the EP after previewing both. One song on the album should not be missed though, and I really like this one: "Museum of Idiots," which sounds kind of like a brass band full of people who have undergone hypnosis, all with the familiar (at least to me) voice of John Flansburgh singing. The rest of the album is kind of boring. But the songs on the EP are great, especially the musically complex first song "Am I Awake?" which is like some warped techno song or something, with an actual melody (rare for techno) sung by Flansburgh. Another good one is "Memo to Human Resources." There is one that is not perfect, a Beach Boys cover, "Caroline No," which is sung by the other member of the duo, John Linnel, who does not have as strong a voice as either Flansburgh or Brian Wilson, but the song is still decent listening if you like the Beach Boys. Worth checking out, even if you have to actually pay for it because the P2P networks are clogged with shitty new Madonna tracks. posted by MindSlave |
