»Cheesy Movies You Used to Like«

The first movie I ever bought was an ex-rental copy of »Young Guns«, and I must have watched that thing 6,000 times until it wore out or I lost it, I don't remember. In case anyone doesn't know, the movie is a fictionalized version of the Lincoln County Cattle War in the Wild West, and the early career of the legendary outlaw Billy the Kid. The actors were mainly "cute" types like Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen who would have gotten their asses kicked the second they set foot in the Old West, but somehow I just connected with that movie. There was a sequel, »Young Guns II«, but it never quite measured up to the original.

I now own DVD's of both movies and all I can say is, if I had a budget half of what either of those movies cost, I could make a better western than that. The whole thing is a historically illiterate excuse to make a psychopathic killer like Billy the Kid into a teenage heart-throb. The best thing I can say about »Young Guns« is that it creates an anti-hero in a similar way to what »The Godfather« does with its mobster characters, but The Godfather never flinches from showing the true brutality of the mafia, while Young Guns turns the whole outlaw world of the Wild West into something out of a Duran Duran video.

Too bad, because there have been some great westerns, especially those directed by Sam Peckinpah and Sergio Leone. But Young Guns is not one of them.

Does anyone else have a movie like this that they used to like, but now think is total cheese?

Such a cool movie, but sooooo cheesy. He-man comes to Earth and is followed by the forces of Skeletor, there he meets Courtney Cox. Oh-so-cool!

Yep, sorry a. I have to agree w/the boys here...I thought "The Professional" was extremely well done and very good movie. Plus, it introduced us to one Natalie Portman. Very Happy
