no offense but

At least Harry Potter doesn't say that he loves Brad Pitt and doesn't abuse women just because they are good-looking.
Listen why is that such an issue? Such posts make me wonder who is gay here...
But any way, what makes you say he likes the "read headed kid"? What exactly in the movie you saw gives that idea?

he is always starring at him, anyways that's not the point. the point is presus treas are being waisted as we speak, making the next book, 2000 pages it will be? i wonder what the plot will be let me take a guess.

plot:its another whirlwind adventure. starts out at aunt and uncles house, hey they hate HP. somebody comes to resque him. i bet its his gay lover. they travel off to school. they get there in some weird way. they learn some more crap. weird stuff starts happeneing at the school. they find out its HP's arch rival. they have a broomstick match and HP's team wins. HP beats the bad guy, story over. with a few other random things in it. di i just descripe all books?

yup you just exactly outlined the previous five books. and how the next two will go too. Isn't it even more interesting how she managed to write whole five books keeping people eager for each next, using just that simple a plot line? There must be at least something good to it, don't you agree?

Maybe you should start a new thread somewhere there for this. The ecological point of Harry Potter popularity and what to do to save trees? What options there could be instead of paper books? What books will be like in a few decades? I bet it'd be an interesting discussion.

By the way, what do you people think of Harry Potter books being disliked by church for the "revival" of dark arts? Did they make any of you think seriously about cursing someone or making a potion?

*Author Richard Abanes has written a book called Harry Potter and the Bible. He says that the movie and books not only teach anti-Christian lessons on the occult, but also moral relativism, and desensitize children to profanity and off-color humor.*
*several Australian Christian schools supporting a banning of the books*
*God is clear in Scripture that any practice of magic is an "abomination" to him. God doesn't distinguish between "white" and "dark" magic since they both originate from the same source*

Harry Potter and Religion

Um... Harry Potter celebrates Christmas! How can it possibly be against Christianity? If anything it is insulting to people who practice Wicca.

well...like zero said, it's withcraft. that's probably the reason why it's one of the top ten most commonly censored books...

however, I think that as long as you don't submerge yourself into the world of Harry Potter, try boiling skins and rats and such Shocked , and make the books your god, then it doesn't really matter to Christian beliefs and life.

It's not like once Christians read the books, they're "breaking rules." 3Tooth

Give power

HP are in the list of books which parents should consider as dubious and think twice before letting their children read it. I would call it nonsense, because no one in their right sense would forbid those books. Yes they are about witchcraft, but really it's a makebelieve world, and every child knows that.
"The idea that we could have a child who escapes from the confines of the adult world and goes somewhere where he has power, both literally and metaphorically, really appealed to me." (J.K. Rowling)
So witchcraft is just the means of giving power to children. Pity it's an only means, and only in an imaginary world Very Happy , but considering those books as promoting dark arts... a bit of an exaggeration. Just another proof for me how unreasonable religious people can be.

I havn't seen any 10 year olds chanting in circles around virgins and goat skulls just yet. What the...?
Christians have always been idiots, just look at George Bush. Cool HA, not all christians but the vast majority is strongly biased, I mean there's barely any evidence that god exists and there's no evidence kids practice witch craft so, what the fuck?

C.S. Lewis - watch out for his pagan books!

C.S. Lewis is regularly quoted by Christians because he is a Christian writer who writes well. The fact that his theological arguments are far from complete does not cause a problem for them.

However, it must be remembered that in his allegorical Christian stories, 'the Narnia Chronicles', he uses the concept of magic all the time. Certainly, the evil character is the 'white witch' but even so Aslan (a heroic lion who symbolises Christ) is said to have a 'deeper magic'.

If one of the most widely accepted Christian authours is allowed to have magic in his stories without damaging his reputation then what is wrong with J.K. Rowling using magic?

Lewis uses Christmas and magic. Rowling uses Christmas and magic. Why the big difference of opinion?

BTW I intend to start reading the Phillip Pullman books soon. That looks like a set of children books that are WORTH reading!

Evidence

why do you say that, hk? the bible is an exception to many of the books today. this is the one book that has the most authors that have all written documents that convey the same message over and over again. that in itself is evidence that there was something more behind the Book then just mere human beings.

there is plenty of archaelogical evidence to support the bible. characters and figures in the bible that were once doubted (and still are) was proved by numerous discoveries. pontius pilate and david are some of the biblical figures that have revealed to be true by archaelogical evidence. the dead sea scrolls also provide evidence for the bible.

nothing. i agree.

pfft. any person who has some sort of opinion is biased, christian or not. atheists, christians, jews, muslims, buddhists, you name it, they're all strongly biased. including you. 3Tooth
