Distinctive Pools of New Jersey is a very under handed, abusive company to say the least. The owner, Jennifer is the most abnoxious, verbally abusive individual I have ever encountered in my life. She has been known to trespass in people's backyards, just opening the gate, and walking around their pools, and when you go outside and ask her who and why is she in your backyard, she barks at you, "WHO INSTALLED YOUR POOL?" and doesn't leave until you answer her. (It was a time like that I would have liked to have had a sign in my yard that says "Trespassers will be shot!" She then proceeds to tell you that HER company didn't do the work and it's shoddy. As if THAT wasn't enough of an obnoxious personality, deal with her from a business stand-point. If you don't pay her immediately, and I mean within 2-3 days of receipt of her bill, whether you have questions, concerns, or are not happy with the work her company has performed, she DEMANDS you pay, and if you don't, the job will not be finished until you do, but that is only after she has EVERY employee in her office call your home and ask where the payment is. (Usually all calling in the same day to boot!) >God forbid you state that you are not happy with something, she basically accuses you of being a moron and tells you that you don't know what you're talking about. Distinctive Pools is NOT a company ANYONE should do business with, unless you enjoy being verbally abused and ridiculed. >>>BEWARE OF THE OWNER!<<< posted by fxy832 |

I can't agree more with your comments. The guy that writes the contracts name is Walter. He seemed very knowledgeable about the business and seemed to be a decent guy. Unfortunately I signed the contract and that's the last I saw of him. It turns out he started the company and has turned it over to his psycho daughter Jenifer. She is everything you say and more. I think that she is evil to the core. She compensates for her lack of knowledge about pool construction by being so nasty. She has a foul mouth and as you say the most verbally abusive person I have ever met. Since they built my pool I have run into others that have dealt with them. They have exactly the same opinion. I spoke to one guy that they put a lean on his house. She could have done my pool for free and it would not have been worth the aggravation and abuse that we have endured. If after reading this and the other post you still decide to use them you are out of your mind. I would rather go to walmart and buy a blow up pool to swim in. I hate my pool and I hate them. In my opinion Jenifer has some really deep psychological problems, I think we will read about her in the newspaper one day. If she is not on medication she should be. To sum it up----------DO NOT USE DISTINCTIVE POOL FROM MORGANVILLE. Almost forgot to mention, they are so despised that they have to run the business from a fortified secure residence on Crine RD. I dropped off a check and it took a good 10 minutes to get access past the locked gate. There are cameras and warning signs all over. Paranoid? Maybe with good reason. I wold be interested to know if others have comments on their adventures with Distinctive. posted by sickofit |

thanks for posting your comments on distinctive pool. i was considering using distinctive pools, inc to build a pool. after to talking to relatives and friends they put me in touch with friends of theirs that used distinctive. it looks like i was pretty close to making a big mistake. i really do not enjoy being talked down to or insulted and it sounds like that is the norm with them. this is a pretty big investment. thanks, does not look like i will be using distinctive pools, inc. posted by lawdog |

if you are considering using distinctive pools, inc do yourself a favor and get a copy of nj monthly or design nj. there are other pool installers listed in there that do free form natural pools. contact these other companies for comparative quotes. ask to see a portfolio of their work and ask for references from other customers. if you ask the same of distinctive they will not be able to provide what the competion can. ask to go look at their work and talk to the homeowners. if you want a real thrill ask other contractors what they think of distinctive. ask what they think of jenifer, she is infamous in the industry. i have spoke to other companies since distinctive did my pool and these other companies reserve comment on the competition until you ask about distinctive pools, inc. no one has anything nice to say about them at all. one guy told me that distinctive got their start in doing septic tanks, he said they should have stuck with that. posted by sickofit |

Wow! I accidently read this site when I was searching for distictive pool. I wanted to see their website. We enjoyed our first summer with our pool built by Distictive Pool. Our experience was different. We met with Walter, he is the father who built this company. He was open about the fact that he is getting older and now just enjoys the selling part of the business, he is a very nice man. He also said that his daughter will be the one that will contact us once they start. She came over to our home and gave us some ideas on landscaping once they dug the hole. We were confused and she was very insightful. Yes-she spoke very highly about Distinctive, and how creative the company is. She was correct! Our pool is amazing! We have a waterfall that I have never seen in my life! Our summer was filled with parties at our home, and our friends kept taking photos of our backyard. Distinctive did an amazing job! Yes- we did have to pay on time, and we received a reminder call. We did not have a problem with that. It was part on our contract. We also had to drop a check off at the property, we did not have a problem with the gate and camera, it's ovious that they have it to protect from theft. The property is kind of on an open road, so I can understand why they need the gate. Also, once our pool was finished Walter came to see the finished job! In between the different phases, I would say that Jen visited our home several times to make sure everything was done correctly and to answer questions. We thought that was sweet. We recently had a problem with our pool filter, just prior to closing our pool for the winter. She sent the electrician the next day. It was actually a bigger problem than we thought. We think we were hit by lightning. Anyhow, within days, it was fixed and we were able to close our pool for the winter. We are even considering entering the New Jersey Magazine, for our backyard. During our experience we met the mom, the sister and the husbands. Everyone is really nice. We would recommand Distictive- I probably sound like a commercial, but they build unbelievable pools... This was our experience. posted by ellen |

the fantastic experience by "ellen" is just way to good to be true. the poster covered every comment made by others that posted previously with way to much kindness. yes you do sound like a commercial. way to overdone. i would be pretty leary about believing that. i am still shopping for a pool installer. i picked up a copy of Design NJ magazine as well as a couple other nj magazines. in them i found contacts of pool installers. i have spoke to some of them and would suggest others do the same before spending a large amount of money on a pool. one thing that i found interesting is that they will not talk bad about other companies with the exception of distinctive. just mention distinctive and jennifer, and you will get an earfull. it is hard to believe she is that well known. i still might call distinctive to get a price and see if they are able to provide a list of referrals and show me some of their work as well as let me talk to some of their customers. posted by lawdog |

As I was searching under swimming pools I noticed this blog in-my-opinion.org about a New Jersey pool company. I tried to contact the person that posted this information but was unable to do so because he is hiding behind this privately registered domain (in-my-opinion.org). I wanted to speak to this person because I was told by my friend to use that particular pool company. I wanted to ask if what the blogger saying is true. Obviously, he or she will not accept anyones responses because they are not being honest about their remarks. posted by jeffrey-corbin |

i checked my inbox here and there were no messages left for me requesting contact. leave your email and i will be glad to contact you. then don't take my word for it. ask for referrals. look at their work and then go back to the homeowners house the next day and ask them what they really think. it really makes me wonder about "ellen". i gotta think that is the industry famous jennifer. no one who has had a good or even an excellent experience would take the time to write all that or be able to make up the detailed excuses for what the other posters experienced. posted by sickofit |

I ask everyone reading these posts, can a company stay in business since 1969 under the same management/owner if they do bad work? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out all of these post are from the competition and I myself would really have to question using anyone else beside Distinctive pools, knowing the competition posted these remarks what does that say about their ethics. posted by sylvester |
