»First short story-nuclear explosions involved«

The fire raged on top of the 10-story concrete cylinder in front of Jim. Jim was a firefighter, and he had seen fires, but never one as fierce as this. A plane, had, as unlikely as anything, crashed right into unit 2 at the Blue Run Nuclear plant, and the plant was leaking radioactivity like a stuck pig. Jim and the others continued pouring water on the flames from the jet fuel, which was of course, pointless. The damage had already been done.
“This fuckin’ fire won’t die!” Said Jim
His buddy George chuckled.
As the fire had been raging on for hours, and there was a craft weighing who knows how much on top of the containment structure, and that coupled with thousands of gallons of water falling on the concrete at any given second, the structure was rapidly losing integrity. As another loud crack sounded from the top of the gigantic jar of radioactive slop came, Jim spotted something in horrific realization. The airplane was slowly tilting towards the inside of the building. Jim knew exactly what would happen if that fell in. It would hit the reactor vessel, crushing it, and compressing the fuel inside it causing a nuclear explosion at least 10 times the force of Hiroshima.
“Uh, George, we better get the hell out of here,” he said
“Why Jim? You afraid of a few gamma rays? Heh,” Said George.
“No George, I’m afraid of being vaporized when a 737 falls on a nuclear reactor,”
And as he said this the airplane made a definite movement into the giant tower. Jim clambered into his truck and addressed the firefighters over the loudspeaker.
“All crew fall back. Get as far away from here as you can. This reactor is going to blow,” he said in an almost unnaturally calm voice.
As his crew waddled into his truck he told them why they were leaving and he instructed all trucks to follow him. They drove for about 30 miles when suddenly there was a bright flash and it glowed like the sun. Then there was an ear shattering boom as Jim was tossed and turned about like a rag doll. Then all was quiet. Jim saw in the distance out of the windshield a sight that was both beautiful and terrifying, the truck was on its side and Jim could see out of the front a Gigantic red, orange, and yellow mushroom shape, gracefully rising out of the horizon like a feather on an air current in a show of nature’s worst nightmare. “Damn” Said Jim, and then he blacked out.
Epilogue

At 9:23 PM, the 737 that had rested atop the containment of unit 2 fell in, crushing the reactor vessel as Jim had predicted. Jim, his friend George, and the other firefighters of the Blue Run Fire department lived to tell the tale. The Radiation from the plant in the small western town was carried by the jet stream all across the US where it wreaked havoc. Blue Run was literally vaporized, and all but the vault of the local bank remain. Of the inhabitants of Blue run, all but 3 escaped, they were police officers who had made sure that every last innocent person was saved. They were honored with a memorial in Seattle. All other information about the accident remains classified.

yes, i know it isn't very good, yes i know it sucks, yes, i am crazy enought to make a long version, and YES I KNOW NUCLEAR PLANTS CAN'T REALLY EXPLODE! IT'S A FREAKIN' STORY PEOPLE! SUSPENTION OF DISBELIEF! i wrote this for a school assignment but edited it so that i wouldn't be suspended. this is presented in the way it was originally ment.
