My boyfriend had a message returned (delivery failure)to his email inbox yesterday. It was from a woman, and had been forwarded to an email box that had the same address as his, only 2 digits extra on the end. I assumed he must have been forwarding it to a secret email box that I didn't know about, and had typed the address in wrong. When I asked him, he told me that he had deleted the message and has no idea how it had forwarded anywhere. I'm sure someone out there must know enough about computers to tell me if this is really possible. Pleas Help! posted by flame |

What do you mean by forwarding? Can you describe it more? Can you give an example of the "2 digits"? posted by knn |

ok...There was a returned message in the inbox "From: postmaster@OMC1-S30.phx.gbl" "Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Failure). the message came back to him at "johndoe@hotmail.com" stating that the message he forwarded to "johndoe55@hotmail.com was undeliverable. The two digits added to his username were 55. I saw it and told him that I believe he must have another email address that he wanted to forward this message to, but typed it in wrong. He said that he hit the delete button and doesn't know how this could have happened. posted by flame |

I think he is right. Some spammer probably sent an email and was using your friend's email address as the return address. I get thousands of such emails "back" to my inbox. Emails I have never sent, but returned as undeliverable. It was good to delete this email, since it may have contained virusses. posted by knn |
