Sid Vicious is the most popular and visible icon of the punk movement, and for good reason. Sid joined the Sex Pistols in 1977. He was recruited by manager Malcolm McLaren who wanted Sid because he had the attitude and the look - so the old bass player was kicked out and Sid was in.

With McLaren's vision and the styling of Vivienne Westwood Sid became the pure face of punk, and he had the natural attitude to match.

Sid was described by many as likeable and maybe even a little bit introverted. He was born in London as "John Simon Richie", and sarcastically dubbed "Sid Vicious" by band mate John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) - Sid was named after John's hamster "Sid the Vicious" who had a habit of biting people.

Despite only having a handful of recordings and dubious musical talent, John Simon Richie achieved legend status as "Sid Vicious" - the embodiement of punk.

Sly was born May 10th, 1957. He was born in England, and spent his teen years in London. A high-school dropout, at a young age he was recruited by Malcolm McLaren to join a band that McLaren had created to exploit the disaffected youth of London.

That band was called the 'Sex Pistols', named in part after McLaren's boutique, 'Sex.'Sly was approximately 19 when the Pistols made it to the very top of the music industry in 1977 with songs like 'Anarchy in the U.K.' and 'God Save the Queen', which made number one on the charts despite being censored (The Billboard chart had a blank spot at Number One).

The Sex Pistols were a smartly packaged group representing rebellion and anarchy, even as they were basically about making money. Sid, however, was no act: cruel, nasty, self-destructive, he personified that which the Sex Pistols purported to represent

Sid is said to have asked Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead to teach him how to play bass with the words, "I can't play bass." Kilmister's reply was "I know." According to Kilmister, Ritchie was a hopeless student.

Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister (born Ian Fraser Kilmister, December 24, 1945, also known as Ian Fraser Willis) is an English/Welsh bass player and singer. He is known primarily as the founding member and leader of the heavy metal band Motörhead. His unmistakable appearance, with his facial totem moles, lank hair and gravelly voice have made him a cult figure known well beyond the world of rock music.
