»V for Vendetta«

I just saw this movie last night...has anyone else seen it? its starting to spark all kinds of debates in the media right now. Its a movie about a man named V who begins a revolution against his government. now it has some good points and some very terrible ones. But most of the media has slammed this movie calling it an anti american film. What are your guyses take on it. im staying neautral for the second but soon will give my opinion of it.

i saw it, it reminded me a lot of »Equilibrium« in a way...although at the same time there were a lot of differences.

if you haven't seen equilibrium then go rent it or even buy it, its worth it.

i liked V and i could see how it could be taken as "anti-american" as a matter of fact i thought that while watching it. certain things that were said or hinted around...meh...there was a lot of nazi type references too.

Osama, Father of His Country

I've only read the graphic novel of V for Vendetta by Alan Moore, but that was incredible. I loved it, and I'll definitely see the movie within the next couple of weeks. And anti-American? Doesn't the whole thing take place in BRITAIN in the future, with the main villains being the BRITISH secret police and government?

Anyway, even if it had been set in future America, it's presented as fiction and thus should not be considered "anti" -anything. Batman runs from the cops a lot, both in the comics and in the movies...does that make the Batman stories anti-cop? Obviously not.

Similarly, if V blows up the Houses of Parliament in London at the beginning like he does in the comic, it's not targeting any nationality or group, like, for instance, the Klan in America did with blacks. If V were an Irish Catholic terrorist and he killed random British civilians for the sole reason that they are British, that would be anti-British. But V doesn't do that in the comic; it's all an insurrection by one man against a totalitarian government.

As for me, for instance, if I were an impoverished Arab living in Saudi Arabia, one of the worst dictatorships in the world, I would go to my nearest terrorist leader and say, "Where do I sign up for al Qaeda?" Anyone with any patriotism and no other way to fight back would do that, just like the American colonists formed militias to defend themselves from the redcoats. Just because the leaders of al Qaeda (like Osama) may care more about power and publicity stunts like 9/11 than they care about accomplishing any real progress, doesn't mean the rank and file of al Qaeda insurgents are like, wrong or something.

There is no qualitative difference between Osama bin Laden and George Washington, both military leaders who came to power by fighting guerilla wars against foreign aggressors. The only difference is Osama will probably lose, because he's not trained in strategy and screws up constantly, while Washington was a former military officer for Brtiain who knew what he was doing most of the time. And also, Osama also doesn't have much political support, only a little financial support from wealthy Muslims, while Washington had whole countries like France supporting him.

But really, both Washington and Osama were/are dictators themselves because they just want to sit back and sort of command or direct everyone to fight the war. Washington wasn't even politically that radical, that was more the product of Jefferson and the rest of the intellectuals, and Osama totally lacks a genius like Jefferson on his side. So even if Osama succeeded in overthrowing the Arab dictators or scaring America out of the Middle East, it would be a fleeting victory and some other power (like China) would move in, cut a deal with the moderate Muslim leaders, and Osama and his war on America would be forgotten.

So, V is kind of like George Washington, except he's fighting his own government instead of a foreign government. V and Washington are the bad guys you're glad you have on your side, just because they're so bad. Osama is not like V because he's not good at strategy and goes for publicity instead of real victory, but that's the only difference. If there were a viable way to start a new revolution in Britain, with a chance in hell of revising the current model of government, then V for Vendetta could really happen there. And I do think it's significant that the Wachowski's didn't rewrite the whole thing to be like the Matrix, where American law enforcement officers were portrayed as the villains, even though it was all virtual reality or whatever. V for Vendetta wouldn't work if set in America because people who go see movies generally like our system of government - even if they hate our leaders - whereas the same people generally dislike governments like Britain's.

As I've always said, Britain is not a democracy; it's a constitutional monarchy, and it has an official Church of England, headed by the monarch, as the national religion. Britain still has an official board of censors who monitor the books published or marketed there. And finally, Britain has a government-run media outlet, the BBC, which is mostly pro-British propaganda about everything from Isaac Newton to the American Colonies to Darwin to World War II to al Qaeda.

No difference between Darwin or Newton and Osama either, since none of them presented much data but all of them claimed to have revolutionary insights into the nature of reality and expected everyone to believe them

But I digress and write too much.

The wool over your eyes

The thing about V is that it is going to spark debate and get everyone talking about the rights and wrongs of the big powers. The truth is while terrorism is given the banner of Al and bin ladin, we can never be sure if that is the wool that is being pulled over our eyes.
Lets take sword fish the film that talks about secret societys in America that create illusions
for the people. Osama is just the wool that helps create the fear of terror, thus setting the stage for the bush agenda to revenge Iraqi for his father. I think the source of power always lies in the ones who benefit more. Thus they settled in the cradle of civilization and a new nation was born.

I see a future where V will be the start of a global revolution. A revolution without bullets and guns... When the masses speak against bush the king of terror...

They are afraid that I am going to
say the things that are not
supposed to be said. They are
afraid that I am going to say the
truth.

The truth is that there is
something terribly wrong with this
world, isn't there? If you look
about, you witness cruelty,
injustice and despotism. But what
do you do about it? What can you
do?

You are but a single individual.
How can you possible make any
difference? Individuals have no
power in this modern world.
That is what you've been taught
because that is what they need you
to believe. But it is not true.

This is why they are afraid and the
reason that I am here; to remind
you that it is individuals who
always hold the power. The real
power. Individuals like me. And
individuals like you.

I have come to offer you a deal.
If you accept, I will give you a
different world. A world without
curfews, without soldiers and
surveillance systems. A world that
is not run by other men but that is
run by you. I am offering you a
second chance.

All I
ask is that you join me at the
gates to watch as the past is
erased, the pathway cleared so that
together we can start toward a new
day.

But, you ask, who am I to make such
promises? A fair question but
hardly necessary as you know me
already. To know me any more you
need only look to a mirror.

Good evening citizens of the world.
This is the voice of Fate. Your
fate...

I have done that which I came to
do. Now, it is time for me to rest
and with me the past will, at last,
find peace.

But the world, the world is not
saved... Do not think that, when
the fires die and the smoke clears,
there is no miracle... there is
only a path... upon which they must
learn to rule themselves.

Since mankind's dawn a handful of
oppressors have accepted the
responsibility over our lives,
responsibility that we should have
accepted ourselves. By doing so,
they took our power. By doing
nothing, we gave it away.

Soon, our world will change.
Our leaders will be gone and we
must choose what comes next. A
return to the chains of others or
lives of our own. A world of the
past or one of the future.

The choice I give to you...

Bush Was Dictator of Iraq

Checks and balances prevent any person from becoming a dictator in the United States. However, checks and balances do not prevent any U.S. citizen from becoming dictator of a foreign country through military adventure.

A dictator is a person who rules a population without regard to law; that is, a dictator IS the law, so the law does not apply to him. Since all populations, no matter how primitive, have had their own laws since before there were dictators, a dictator always establishes his rule by overthrowing the previous laws held by the population he wishes to rule.

No informed observer would deny that the nation of Iraq already had laws before the US and UK led a coalition to overthrow the ruler of Iraq in 2003. Once the ruler of Iraq was overthrown, it is a fact that this meant a change in the laws previously held by the Iraqis, and a new Iraqi Interim Government was installed by the US/UK-led coalition, under a legal document called the "Law of Administration for the State of Iraq for the Transitional Period." This interim government drafted a new constitution for Iraq, and a public referendum to ratify or reject the constitution were held in due course.

By far the most significant contributor nation (83% of forces) to this coalition was the United States, which provided forces commanded first by U.S. Army General Tommy Franks, who was succeeded in 2003 by General John Abizaid. All United States military personnel are subordinate to the Commander in Chief of the United States Armed Forces, the President of the United States. The U.S. president and commander in chief during the entire sequence of events described above has been George W. Bush, who also happens to have been a major force in the political machinations leading to the war.

It was George W. Bush who, in a televised address to the American people on March 17, 2003, demanded that Saddam Hussein and two of his sons leave Iraq within 48 hours. It was also George W. Bush who on March 19, 2003, announced the initiation of an invasion of Iraq, which he then described as housing "an outlaw regime that threatens the peace with weapons of mass murder."

Regardless of whether the invasion of Iraq was legal under international law as specified by the United Nations Charter, it is impossible to look at the above facts and rationally conclude that George W. Bush was never a dictator of the nation of Iraq. From the undated fall of the previous ruler of Iraq sometime in 2003, to the transfer of sovereignty to the Iraqi Interim Government in June 2004, the only lawful authority in Iraq was the US/UK-led military coalition, which was composed mainly of troops ultimately under the command of George W. Bush.

The only way to deny that Bush was never dictator of Iraq is to assert that other heads of state retained command of their own forces in Iraq. In that case, Bush was dictator of 83% of Iraq, the percentage of lawful forces in Iraq that were under U.S. command.

Perhaps, having witnessed the democratically-elected head of state of the United States become dictator of a foreign country by military force, as established above, the people of the world no longer recognize the United States as a democracy. And perhaps they see the U.S. presidency and its concomitant military role as a way of exporting dictatorship around the globe, in that it allows the U.S. president to overthrow the ruler or head of state of any nation which he can successfully conquer, as was done in Iraq.

Bush recieved a letter from a young hacker and it appeared to contain a single line of coded

message:

370HSSV-0773H

Bush was baffled, so he e-mailed it to Condi Rice. Condi and her aides had no clue either, so they sent it to the FBI. No one could solve it at the FBI so it went to the CIA, then to the NSA. With no clue as to its meaning they eventually asked Britain's MI-6 for help. Within a minute
MI-6 cabled the White House with this reply:

"Tell the President he's holding the message upside down."
