 The current "war on drugs" legislation creates more problems for society then would a regulated market for currently illicit drugs. We could get rid of the black market of world-wide drug trafficing with its inherent super-profitting and accompanying violence. We could develop monies to good treatment for people with drug problems. And the majority of drug users who have no problems with the substances they use - be in grass, coke or heroin - would be left in peace and enjoyment free from harrassment from reactionary states. To me there is only one difference between prescription drugs and street drugs is that one is legal and the other is not. And talk about having our priorities ass backwards-look at these statistics... Americans killed/died in 2000 from Tobacco 435,000 Alcohol 85,000 Adverse Reaction to Prescription Drugs 32,000 All Illicit drug use 17,000 Marijuana 0  Now, somebody tell me what's wrong with this picture? Oh, and before you self righteous Yahoos come back with that "pot leads to harder drugs" crap-think of this-your doctor has become one of the biggest drug dealers in history. Remember a few short years ago Pharmacies were open 5 days a week and from 8:00 to 6:00 on average and there might have been two people behind the counter? I was at Target yesterday and counted 6 people. And most Pharmacies are now open 7 days a week from 8:00 to 9:00-some are 24 hours! All drugs have side effects whether they are prescription or street AND there is no difference between the two-PERIOD! and I should know, I have made the mistake of trying almost everything out there (I wonder if I have Drain Bramage?)-the most ridiculous laws are against pot-and that's because of 1)the Alcohol Industry lobbyists and 2) the Cotton Industry lobbyists and 3) Lumber Industry Lobbyists. The Alcohol industry wants people to get buzzed of their product, the cotton industry would suffer greatly because Hemp can be made into clothing, and the Lumber Industry would suffer because paper can be made from Hemp-so we cut down our old growth forests to wipe our butts clean-then flush the trees down the Crapper! Are you serious? Leave them to themselves to die. If hardcore drugs were legalized, not only would crime be sent soaring, death rates from drugs/drug related accidents would triple and the country would be sent spiralling down faster then it is now. I believe that the use and or possesion of drugs should be aginst the law, I believe the peneltys for such should be increased ten fold with no trial,lawer's, plea bargins or anything like that. Caught-Jail period simple two step prosses. Now having that said I believe Marajuana is NOT a drug. It should be leagleised the government could regulate it making distrabution by a private citizen a felony (thus controlling the avalibility) and tax accordingly, this would create a tidy sum of income in the form of tax revenues aswell as the retail income. Also the agriculture subsidies could be cut from the fiscal budget (by the creation of a new cash crop). I think you can probably roughly figure the numers im talking about. With this in place I think there would be no need for the government to think about a 500 Billion dollar medicare cut, or the phasing out of Cost of Living increases for Social Security, and numerious programs for aiding the poor. posted by groundhogg |
