The most common age is 18 right? So i guess 16 would be ok. Since there is little difference between 18 and 16. Also your mature enough. ...in my opinion posted by Pawnatron |

I don't think you could generalise, since different societies have different opinions on the matter. What I do think is more important is consitency. In the UK, you can do the nasty at 16, but can't watch the nasty uncensored at all - but you can watch the censored version at the age of 18. This is totally stupid. Whatever age is appropriate for doing it should be applied to watching it surely? And anything I can do legally, I should be entitled to watch legally WITHOUT the censorship. So a British porn star can make a hard core vid in the UK, but then can't watch their own work uncensored - unless they go abroad. posted by Marl64 |

Quote: And anything I can do legally, I should be entitled to watch legally WITHOUT the censorship. As is the case with child pornography and animal sex: You can have sex, but you cannot tape it and watch it. There was even a case where a woman had sex with her dog, wrote that to her girl-friend and was prosecuted because of spreading beastiality. posted by knn |

Quote: Did I read that right? You're saying Child sex is legal? Well, you can have sex with a 17-year old person in most countries, right? If you tape that, then you own pornography with someone who is below 18 and that is punishible in several countries, although that's not exactly child porn (since child is a person until 12 years, I think). But nevertheless: You get my point. posted by knn |

Thanks for the explanation you had me worried. It reminds me of something that happened a couple of years ago on another board - someone was bitching about a man having pre-teen sex with a girl. There was much condemnation and sabre rattling and yet it was all for nothing. It turned out that the girl was 17 - which was considered underage where he was from - all the spear waving stopped and people quickly lost interest. Outraged, he proclaimed that everyone was now accepting pre-teen sex as ok - Idiot. Simply because he was unable to grasp the basic concept that pre-teen literally means "Before she becomes a teenager" - ie upto and including 12. What he was describing was (barely) underage sex. By his definition, I'd be a paedophile 'cos I once had sex with a 16 year old girl - yet 16 is perfectly legal here. I'm just not allowed to watch the tape posted by Marl64 |

knn: Age to watch porn? How many years should you be? Very poor grammar knn You don't say "How many years should you be?"...you say "How old should you be?" There's a free grammar lesson. posted by Echelon |

Quote: You don't say "How many years should you be?"...you say "How old should you be?" Wrong. The answer to "How many years?" is "1 year, 2 years etc". The answer to "How old?" could be "20 eons, 2 eras, old enough, 12 times convicted". I have changed it though. Thanks for pointing this out. posted by knn |

knn: Wrong. The answer to "How many years?" is "1 year, 2 years etc". The answer to "How old?" could be "20 eons, 2 eras, old enough, 12 times convicted". Nope. I understand your native tongue isn't English, and like many languages, it's grammatical structure is different than other languages. You'll never hear anyone ask "How many years are you?" or "How many years do you have?". You ask "How old are you?" And the answer is "I'm 21 years old", "17", or "I'm 17". You can't always translate things literally, because they don't sound right. posted by Echelon |

Echelon: You can't always translate things literally, because they don't sound right. That's about the size of it. It's wierd, and really hard to explain, some sentences might seem completely correct by all rules of grammar, but just don't scan right. I remember this same example from when I tried to learn other languages, having to be told repeatedly "They don't say I am 15, they say I have 15 years" Though being on International forums such as this you tend to overlook it. posted by Marl64 |

Marl64: I remember this same example from when I tried to learn other languages, having to be told repeatedly "They don't say I am 15, they say I have 15 years" That's exactly my point. That example you just gave would be the literal word for word translation from English to Spanish. Spanish: "Cuántos años tienes?" Literal Translation: "How many years do you have?" Spanish: "Tengo 21 años" Literal Translation: "I have 21 years" It's plain wrong posted by Echelon |
