»Death before Jesus«

The ONLY way to Gods kingdom is through belief and acceptance of Jesus Christ. This is what I have been told by a several of bible study groups i came into contact with briefly while visiting them with relatives. If this is the case then what is the fate of all those before Jesus? What happens to the Egyptians? the Romans? The Greeks? The Chinese? e.t.c. Are they all doomed to an eternity of hell just because they happened to be born at the wrong time? Is it through no more than a stroke of luck that those born after christ have a chance at heaven? What about those who had never even heard of him? Do they have to endure suffering in hell forever? Someone help me out here. Bazar
