»Life and Liberty: cruel propaganda«

I had just returned from 3 weeks abroad in Europe, and I saw those words painted in bold script, high on the ceiling in the international arrivals terminal in phildadelphia.

And I laughed, because none of them are true. The Declaration of Independence has become nothing more than a propaganda tool.

Life? Perhaps too broad a term to define, but the current administration, and administrations past, have had too cavalier an attitude towards life. I'm not talking about abortion, but about war. They wage war in sloppy, disgusting fashions with massive collateral damage. This is not respecting life. This is not affirming that every individual, regardless of race, religion, or nation, has a right to life. This flies in the face of something this country is supposed to stand for, something it rarely has.

Liberty...hardly. We are all hopelessly bound to this country, there is only an illusion of liberty. Any male 18 or over knows this first hand. We can of course rescind our citizenship, but at what cost? We lose our home, we lose the connection to our families. That is not liberty, that is extortion. "Be prepared to die for this president, or lose everything you love"

Yep, this is true. But is true freedom even possible? How could you define a government in which we have total liberty, other than anarchy?
