I don't think he should be killed. Since i don't believe in the death penalty. Can't see how that stuff is going to help. It only makes more space for other prisoners. The worst thing to do is Prison for life. Maximum security with bad food and _Nothing_ to do. No tv no books no nothing. And I shall call this prison...the Halls of Limbo ! And there he will just be in his cell. And there will only be light during the day. And there will be no proper heating system. And he will be in isolation. So maybe if this is done then he can be in prison for the rest of his life AND...go insane posted by Pawnatron |

but in Saddam's case I'm going to have to make an exception. Keeping him alive is just going to cause far too many problems. If he's found guilty of ordering the mass killings which filled the mass graves then I think he is at least worth considering for the death penalty anyway. Add the political problems of keeping him alive and it's death death death all the way. posted by fatpie42 |

Quote: Keeping him alive is just going to cause far too many problems. It seems to me that killing him might create even more problems. For those who support him and who are against new regime he will become a martyr. A person alive, in prison for the lifetime is kind of not that inspiring to fight and die for, than someone who suffered for Irqai people and died. I think they won't sentence him to death. posted by mymla |

Not really kept up with this travesty, so I have a few questions... What's he charged with / being tried for? Who's he being tried by? Under which legal system? posted by Marl64 |

Quote: What's he charged with / being tried for? Accused of mass murdering curds and some other smaller stuff. Quote: Who's he being tried by? Under which legal system? The newly established Iraqi law system. With an Iraqi judge. However, Saddam's defense was not allowed into the country and the judge wanted to force him to sign something. Both things made a mockery out of this court, winner justice. IMO → Grandpa Saddam's lawyers were forbidden to enter Baghdad posted by knn |

In such a case, I think all the countries he has effected should have the right to vote for his fait, no matter how grotesque the choice. posted by hungarian kid |
