»Why doesn't god stop evil?«

If god is ominipotent (= can do everything, can stop evil) and omniscient (= knows everything, including the evil that is about to occur) and infinite good (= wouldn't let anything bad happen) then why doesn't he do anything against evil in the world?

ba-ba-ba-bake your noodle...

Total control

So the best is to have a government like Bush's to use the god-given powers power to stop evil so that every move (and book read) of every USAnian is controlled?

Is that your answer?

Gud er død

I never said that, Bush is also given the power to stop evil but he is also not using it. If he was using his power for good then he would be a good president. But he is using it to gain more power or to revenge his father or some BS like that...oil and struff...struff?...No; ''Stuff'' Not again

But I think the best answere to the question is that God is not putting an end to war and hunger and Famine and death and Aids because he dosn't exist Thumb Up

Well used

So how would "a well used god given power" look like?

You know that there is hardly something more upsetting for a "god believing" person when the persons he thinks of as highly ethical die in an accident. "Why did god let that be? They prayed every day!"

Icelandic Matrix Nerd priest :D

Well i think that the God given power would be if everybody would do soemthing out of their own interest. Like go to Africa and do volenteer work, stuff like that. Well I don't know...

This is just a theory. I just happened to ask the same question the other day and i got this answere. Also I just heard there was this Priest in iceland who studies The Matrix Movies alot. Finding all the Biblical references in the movies etc etc. So maybe i could get him to come here and he can give you a better answere

Infinite amount of evil

Image, that this question even gets better: Consider that you not only live once but already have lived many times and will live many times more.

So maybe an infinite amount of badness that awaits you... Not again

The people on this planet with the power to make the world a better place don't...why? because like all good deeds that help lots of people, it costs money. Greed and politics get in the way.
You make the world a better place then people don't feel subdugated anymore, they have a much better outlook on life and don't feel opressed by the system.

Whats the best way to control a population? fear. Not fear of punishment or death but fear of not fitting into society, fear of not getting services that you need for day to day life, fear because the media make you afraid that chaos is around the corner if you don't obey the rules.

Why did got Start Evil

Quite simply because good and evil are defined by each other.

I get the Christians 'round once in a while with their "heaven is a paradise where there is no evil' and so I ask them "So there's no good either?"

"Oh yes, in Heaven everything is good" to which I'm compelled to respond "compared to what?"

The bit that a lot of religions are unwilling to accept is that with a creation theory with an omnipotent being, evil MUST be part of that creation.

So it's not just a case of "why doesn't God stop evil?", but "Why did god create evil in the first place?"

Good Question

This is a very good and very important question, and it hits right at the centre of almost every religion:

Evil things happen in this world.

This must mean that God either doesn't want to or isn't able to do anything about it.

If he doesn't want to do anything about it, he can't be good.

If he isn't able to do anything about it, he can't be almighty - or perhaps he doesn't exists at all.

This was once pointed out by a philosopher. I remember reading it a few days ago in a philosophy book, but right now I can't remember who it was. As soon as I find out, I'll let you know.

In the meantime, tell me what you think. I learned something new, I guess

Cant have one without the other.

In that case God can do good deeds and bad. could this mean that there is no oposite to god(ie Lucifer) He is both sides of the same coin?

It's all one sided

As has been said in many books and films, the problem with the bible is that it only tells the story from one point of view - that of God's followers.

Surely to be objective you have to consider both sides of any argument - and of all arguments Good vs Evil has to be up there.

In imdb.com... (Another Keanu Film), Al Pacino (the Devil) describes the bible as "propaganda", and if you look at it from his point of view you can see why.

And for the Comic book Generation - A supreme being with unlimited power would not have an arch enemy.

Healthy body, happy spirits

Compared to a hypothetical evil, of course. If your body is healthy all your life then it's healthy all your life and doesn't ever need to become ill just to be healthy.

So if heaven is all good then there is nothing that someone could consider as bad.

I don't agree that suffer is needed except for experience, but then again if you believe in many lives: Haven't you already suffered enough?

Thus if god allows suffer then it raises questions and creates the image of a shady god.

god is good right?

we all agree for good to exist evil has to exist as well...so God in creating good also had to create evil, it's just a pesky by product of the good that he wanted...would it be better to have no good thus no evil? just like sam said in lotr, "there's some good in this world that's worth fighting for"

I don't believe that. It's as stupid as "pain is needed". Pain is not needed. You just need the strong feeling that something isn't right, not the mindtaking feeling of pain.
