I am right now watching "God TV" and the preacher tells he was a drug-addict once and has been saved by someone who told him I just wanted to point out again that this simple sentence (wether gods exist or not) can have a deep impact. posted by knn |

What do you expect us to say? So a drug dealer feels better for having found religion. Religion obviously has good effects. Nice to know - doesn't really lead to a discussion though i'm afraid. posted by fatpie42 |

knn: someone who told him
'Jesus loves you and has a plan for your life' I just wanted to point out again that this simple sentence (wether gods exist or not) can have a deep impact. I wonder why people are usually sure that God has a good plan for their lives. Why it is so relieveing that somebody has already planned everything for you, and whatever you do is planned. Or maybe that drug-addict was so impressed by the fact that someone _loves_ him? What a life he must have led before he found out he is a favourite child of God and taken care of. posted by mymla |

If you watch God TV the whole day you will notice that exactly sentences like this (and the relieving effect after hearing them) makes people think that Jesus exists. A lot of people talk about the love they feel from Jesus. And it all has its root in "Jesus loves you". How unbelievable simple this religion is. posted by knn |

Quote: How unbelievable simple this religion is. Great things are as a rule simple. That's why they are great, because most can understand it. Jesus loves you and cares for you is very simple and so true and so easy to believe. posted by mymla |

knn: How unbelievable simple this religion is. That's what a visting pastor preached one time. But when I looked into his message, it was actually quite complicated. There are so many things in the Bible...that feel as if they contradict each other. Then you realize, it's all a key. They really don't contradict one another...it clicks in different spots. Then you have to bring all your answers together to get one big answer. And I still can't figure out what that is. I can't see why Christianity is simple. Maybe my mind is just too complex, and I have a mental block for simpleness. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

The pastor that visited my church had divided his sermon into several parts, all beginning with the word 'simply'. I don't get how it could be so simple...unless you're a pastor...then, your job is so..simple. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

I was Christian until very recently and it didn't seem simple to me then. Now I'm an atheist and it hasn't got any simpler posted by fatpie42 |

Nothing's simple. The complexity of the world overwhelms people. They would rather simplify everything to make them feel safe. Hmm. I'm soo tempted to just indulge myself and meander .. posted by Nianza |

knn: sangu: that God has a good plan for your life, that's why mymla. And in Job's case the plan was crap. THIS is one of the Bible stories I have a lot of trouble comprehending...especially when the moral is STILL "God is a loving and caring father and has a good plan for your life." Sure, many Christians would say that Job, in the end, got everything back + even more wealth and happiness and etc., but what about all his family members that died? God couldn't, or rather, didn't, raise them from the dead or something. Just because he got more money and another family doesn't mean that the loved ones lost was "worth it"...ya know what I mean? posted by nocturnal_anonymous |
