You probably know that the question "Why does god need a spacecraft" (the question that has been asked in imdb.com...) has a biblical background. Ezekiel: "I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north--an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal...
Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze... I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him... Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me a loud rumbling sound-May the glory of the LORD be praised in his dwelling place!- the sound of the wings of the living creatures brushing against each other and the sound of the wheels beside them, a loud rumbling sound. The Spirit then lifted me up and took me away" The descriptions go on for pages. Here are some pictures describing the same thing (= god, yes god, sitting in his chair) BEFORE a scientist counted all the numbers together (yes, page long lists of numbers) and redesigned the spacecraft. One of the biggest mysteries of Ezekiels descriptions is his mention of the wheels: This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not turn about as the creatures went That's why the pictures above have all those wheels. Now, a NASA engineer (Blumrich) sat down and constructed (and patented) a truly wonderful construct: The wheel consisting of wheels, so that the wheels did not have to turn, whereever the craft wanted to go [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by knn |

what if these craft are from the future and it's not god but man paying the times of Jesus a visit? Curiosity would be one reason for visiting but these descriptions hint that these visitors didn't care about being seen! why? posted by Crossfade |

Actually the whole thing makes absolutely no sense EXCEPT in an encounter context. Quote: the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven Yup, there are in space, or at least some height. Quote: The Spirit then lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the LORD upon me "anger of my spirit": dizzy, vomiting... "the strong hand of the LORD upon me": He feels the acceleration. posted by knn |

Actually, since it has fans it's probably not a space craft but a manned flying earth vehicle, that would reach some mothership. posted by knn |

I've always been intruiged by this part of the Bible. It seems like the guy is doing his best to describe something he simply doesn't have the words for. I've always wondered though, how well this was translated - was it interpreted with any bias, and would a contemporary translation yield the same result. "wheels intersecting wheels" - there are numerous ways two "wheels" could intersect. Why is it always the same one they show in pictoral interpretations? posted by Marl64 |

Quote: "wheels intersecting wheels" - there are numerous ways two "wheels" could intersect. Why is it always the same one they show in pictoral interpretations? Because they had no clue. It is actually funny. I read once the following (in a Jehova's Witnesses Issue): "Isn't it astonishing that the creator of the world uses a spaceship? No! Because it's a very special spaceship" posted by knn |

nocturnal_anonymous: how can we be sure that this is spaceship that we're talking about here? It's not. It's a "manned (near) earth flying vehicle" with propellers and wheels. I don't know how else you could describe the pictures. The ground station is described a few pages later, by the way. posted by knn |

knn: ...with propellers and wheels. Not necesarily. Two parts as quoted (I don't have the good book handy atm) which suggest not to take the wheels thing too literally.. Quote: appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel Wheel is being used to describe it, but it may not actually be a wheel, it could in fact just be Wheel Shaped Quote: the wheels did not turn about Is this saying that the wheels did not change orientation or didn't rotate - I've heard "Turn about" used in both ways. And most of the drawings have the wheels vertical - traditional wheel orientation. Is this how it is described or is this again just something we naturally assume. Marl64: Spinning Helicopter rotors look like Wheels to the naked Eye Hey, I like that idea. But wings are also described (thus probably wheels mean wheels): "When they stood they let down their wings." posted by knn |

knn: But wings are also described (thus probably wheels mean wheels) But they knew of wings and wheels. They could call a wing a wing and a wheel a wheel. But if this is something unknown, and the closest comparison is a wheel then saying "LIKE a wheel" don't make it a wheel. A flying saucer is like a wheel, we call it a flying saucer because we have saucers. If we didn't then we might call it a flying wheel. [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THIS PICTURE] posted by Marl64 |

i've just started reading an old book called "The Spaceships Of Ezekiel" by J.F. Blumrich fist printed in 1974. Its about a NASA engineer who started out to discredit the belief that God would use a spaceship. He ended up changing his mind. if you find this book, have a read of it. posted by delboy |

It´s God's Holy throne. Even hard to describe by today's words. Much too advanced... Need to look it up. Uc posted by UC |

"The spaceships of Ezekiel" is indeed a book. But, what does a spáceship have to do with God's Holy Throne. He comes and goes "anywhere" in His creation, as He pleases. He does'nt need a spaceship. He walked, at times, throughout the Israeili camp during the Exodus without bringing His Throne along. So, it's not a spaceship that Ezekiel describes. But, His Holy Throne, more likely... He felt the need to bring it that time. Trying to describe It as a spaceship is going to yield very little. To different things completely. Uc posted by UC |
