knn: GAIAN: Ughh...dude, alpha testing means they havn't even released it to the public yet! that's been on there since 2002 Yeah, exactly as I said. How can you "alpha test" your program since 3 years? Gaiaonline has been up since February 2003, started out as a small forum community with some features unusual in their way. Its been in alpha testing due to each of the developmental features they have, each of which have their own team or single person developing it. Beta is coming soon its been said possibly, it will most likely be within this year, within a 6 month period. However, here is a break down of gaiaonline: Its an online community still in heavy development due to its more experimental style and development with coding, such as MySQL and PHP tweaking of the PHPBB interface, which in the time that gaia has been around has been mostly re-done, there is also flash based games being created and already made, such as Gaia Fishing!, which is an interactive fishing game based up for fun. There are journals, which is a system that you can post up a daily journal of information you wish to share, which you can also set to be viewable by all members or just those on your friendslist. There is now also Gaia Housing, which is a shockwave based interactive game, where you can design and develop your own home, which was actually helped coded by one of the game developers from the Sims 2. Other mini features including the Gaia Economy, which is a style in which you earn gaia gold for posting, and browsing the site, which allows you to buy new stuff for your avatar, and rare events, which are rare occuring events that happen randomly, such as Pink Links, Trunks, Pink/Blue Boxes which you can open for the item in them (excluding pink links, which give 1k gold) or sell them on the Marketplace to other gaians. Also guilds, being like mini-forums within the forum, where you can have full control of, and assign crew members, and the such. The site is quite advanced, and still has every reason to be in the alpha stages, its still heavily in development, and has alot of development still ahead of it. As for ukranian, he is slightly wrong, there are 5 administrators, and several coders and programmers for the site, a dozen about known, and contracted workers they have as well. As for the Databases (food named databases, which no one has ever figured out the meaning lanzer had for that) they do go down every so often depending if they are working on it, or if there is a reason for it, such as chocolate, noodle, pie, and a few others for the handling of sessions, they act up when the site hits about 30k usually, then there is sushi which is primarily for the forums, rice for the new Private Messaging system, taco for the guilds. There is alot to the site, which should amaze any coder or programmer when it comes to php/mysql/javascript and especially flash and shockwave, even at that anyone interested in networking and servers will also be interested in them, as they have over 100 servers and growing now assigned to gaia, ranging from one grand up to ten grand, and several dual opteron servers to handle the databases its been said. Needless to say, gaia is a great and growing site, always expanding and improving. posted by Arethic |

i'm a user on gaia,but all people do is get a page refresher,keep it on all day, and get like all the gold in the world.. users who do this get 5700 gold per day.. i'm trying to find out a way to make the site think that i have a certain item in my inventory.. wish i knew how  posted by dude |

People do not use page refreshers, its not allowed, and they do know and promptly ban members that make use of macro's. As for getting a certain item in your inventory, its called buy it, cause you cant "make the site think" you have one, meaning you cant get around gaia's coding to try and hack it if that's what your attemtping, so don't try... just some advice to prevent yourself from being banned

well personnally in my opinion on gaia it is really addictive i mean ive had it for going on a year and its like its just weird really you can style your character that's why its addictive im on there chcecking mail all the time from like 12 differnt people its insnae but i just now got this new avatar because my old one had glitchs so...erm..ttyl guys...

Purple Froot Looop: Gaia is fun and all, I just hate the fact that there is always something wrong with the servers!     The reason they have so many problems is that they have only been rumming for four years and their not good at fixing the problems without resarting the entire system! posted by dragonic_falcon |

Roughly 2 Years, they started in February 2003, it is now April 2005. Its not that they have so many problems and don't know or are not good at fixing them, they grow quickly and tend to push ahead fast, they are trying to make movement to reach beta stage coming up soon, by then they will finally have recovered most of the problems, however there is still rather limited staff working on the hardware side of gaia compared to the software side it would appear mostly. Considering alot of the problems they have had and as quickly as they tend to recover, I would say they do well enough to fix matters without having to "restart" the entire system. posted by Arethic |
