This cannot provide real, hard proof that states such, but I can say that a lot of manga are directed at teens, and rarely are there such manga that relate more "adult" themes, therefore making it less enjoyable for adults, so I can only conclude that the Japanese authors created their manga for teens and "kiddies". Besides, a lot of "adults" look down upon manga/comics and such, calling it childish, as you clearly see in the above posts.
