fatpie42:
Agnostics claim that we cannot know whether God exists and therefore the issue of his existence (and presumably anything else that God might do or think) is unimportant.

You've explained it yourself.
fatpie42:
If you don't know whether centaurs exist you aren't 'agnostic' concerning the issue you either think they exist or you don't.

No you're agnostic; that's the peculiarity of this viewpoint. You are saying that the question does not concern you because you do not know what your position is because you want proof either way which you don't have.

Maybe this is where you're confused - Agnosticism is definitely not a standpoint on God's existence (ie., it is definitely not a religion), because agnostics aren't even in the argument, they say they don't know and thus don't care.

But Agnosticism is definitely a philosophical viewpoint in that the subject does not concern himself with 'God' anymore simply because he says either that he does not know (weak), or that Humans cannot know because God cannot be understood by them if He exists (strong).
fatpie42:
I don't believe in them and I feel the evidence points more strongly in one direction than the other (ie. towards them not existing).

See, that's not agnostic, because you are certain that the evidence points towards one direction. Agnostics would say that any evidence would not exist and would not point in any direction, or if it pointed it was simply some other phenomena misunderstood.

Incidentally, centaurs by popular definition are physical creatures.

God by popular definition is infinite and eternal and some more things like that - from this definition Strong Agnosticism arose because such a being cannot be comprehended by the physical rules we are subject to and thus His existence/non-existence cannot be proven to us, in evidence comprehensible to us.

I am sadly Wrong forum, pal .

No wait, I say, let me say something else in this post..

It is sufficient to include "Don't know/Can't decide/God may care but I don't". Agnostics do not need an option because they don't know if God exists, and thus don't care if he cares as it wouldn't affect them in any way, and if they did need an option this would suffice.

I don't know what to do

Re: yaay fatpie42 is back

I've made a new thread. We can continue the discussion there. I don't think a consensus is far away, but too far away for us to discuss the issue here...

i have no empirical proof for that statement.

There is actually a recent statement of the last pope John Paul II where he states that god doesn't show up anymore and doesn't influence earth anymore.

  "NO CAPES!"

I found it (it was a newspaper story), but I cannot tell whether the pope said it himself or whether he was merely citing the Old Testament, that the greatest tragedy is god's silence.

No, He knows how everything is going to wind up in the end.

A thought...I think God does care. He has spoken with His children from the beginning of time. And now, even to the world today--www.trumpetcallofgod.com
It truly shows how much God does care.

"THERE IS ONLY I" (the truth)

What this means (don't ask how I know, Please!) is, there is only one, which is me, you, us, them. We are 1. If you are not 1, you are nothing, (which is everything other than the truth) We (us, currently) or in nothing, which is everything I/you eperience/live/believe/think etc. etc... everything is nothing... there is only one thing, the truth. ME.
I PARTED MYSELF
I don't think of this as a form of suicide by God, he/she (ultimately, you!... and me too) amused ourself.
As I have been allowed to comprehend it, God is less after us, than he/she was before us. Leading to a 'loss' to the Devil. (sotospeak) But also, ultimately, there is only I.
I'm sure it's very confussing, I make no claims to fully understand it, but it's what I"ve been given.
Also, you are never alone! The straighter your dirrection on 'the path' the more 'that asshole' (that asshole is how I refer to the devil) will be giving you his/hers attention.
If you really feel/think you know something as truth... check yourself. (I'll never stop checking myself, and if I do, I"ve been overcome and misslead.)

haha 'god may care but i don't' - i enjoyed that.

I think if there is a God, as many people pray (whether believers or just confused, like myself ) - then many people can say that they feel cared for, regardless of whether or not He exists and/or cares or not. I think that if there is then He does. Course He would. By definition He is Omni-benevolent.

God is love

God is All-loving because He gives a chance to anyone to repent and be saved.
God feels nothing for the sinners but wrath.
