Well the first major problem to adress would be the high percentage of crooked cops. It's startin to be a real problem here in Australia (especially Melbourne) because the crooked cops are tormenting the straight cops so they don't talk. And the crims are seeing huge advantages. Infact theres been a huge increase in gang-related killings aswell. Crims here aren't so much unhappy, it's just the way they were brought up and they're in no hurry to change. It'd take alot of time connecting all the lines to find the initial source of all this chaos, but I'd have to say it's definitely the government. GST is just soo flawed. posted by hungarian kid |

Agent Zero: community service sucks. but it would teach them nothing. why do you say that? i think community service would teach them a great deal of things, i must say. there are many different areas of community service, so if they don't feel like collecting trash, they can help train dogs to help the handicapped...giving them such a responsibility will train them, too, as well as the dogs. Community service is actually a good idea I think. For those who only committed their first crime, and a "light" one. Can you imagine a guy convicted for beating up his wife to death while drunk, on a community service? Hardly. However, maybe a good way is to teach them some useful profession or something, so that when they get out they would know other ways of earning money than robbing. In that respect community service could be good, 'cause it could actually teach them how to be useful; the problem could be that usually you are underpaid for such jobs, and people who got money easily by robbery will hardly have enough will to stay good and work hard and long to scrape on a living when they could do it in a few minutes. posted by mymla |

I think one of the problems that lead to robbery is unemployment, and so this is the only way to go for some people that cannot get enough money. If they are able to learn how to make a living by themselves, then maybe they won't have to resort to robbery to make a living. posted by nocturnal_anonymous |

The divide between rich and poor is greater than ever, poor people are turning to crime as they feel that is their only option, going to college or university is not an option and they cant better themselves. Either that or they are too lazy to put the work in and want stuff NOW! In the short term they have a few bucks in their pockets, in the long term they will end up with no life to speak of. Maybe that's the problem with people these days, we have become to used to getting stuff right away instead of working for it over a long haul. Guess we are all greedy to some extent and it will be our downfall. posted by Crossfade |

Quote: now that's funny...because Bush cuts the tax for the tax-payers and so the poor luck-out Exactly that's what funny. I don't think Bush's tax and debt politics will help the poor. In fact one of his finance ministers said that Bush didn't get 1 thing he was talking to him. He had a plan to how the poor could get more money but Bush just made jokes about him. posted by knn |
