Yadda yadda yadda, or is that yada-yada-yada? Might barbaric be a relative term? That is relative, to the one who committed the crime, concluding, if his crime is barbaric to us, but it is not to him, then the punishment fits the crime, to him. There is merit to the Marine’s “kill them all and let God sort them out.” When they are shooting at you, it works great. “Prison -- is to keep criminals away from society to prevent further harm.” This has merit, provided they have done harm in the first place, a point of contention. If they have, then prison is likely a point of agreement, not a point of contention, just impossible to implement. The death penalty kind of assures we keep the most barbaric away from society. I wouldn’t think that is a point of contention. Just, is it morally acceptable? Get real, the vast majority of shoplifters do not shop lift what they need, but luxury items they “want”. What of the idea that it is genetic? We could have a test for the potential criminal and lock them up before they commit the crime? Say, if you can reload my computer and get the urges it has to screw up out of it, you’re hired, and well on your way to being wealthy, and crime free. Agent Zero: i still thuink they should burn them now too. instead of the electric chair. burn them alive. its barbaric but it would probably scare alot of criminals out of doing what they were doing. because if they don't die the first time set them on fire again. And what if they turn out to be innocent, eh? At least if you kill them humanely an apology seems half-reasonable. If you were as brutal as possible with an innocent citizen, you might find it harder to justify. posted by fatpie42 really |
