So I'm sat here, reading the board, munching on a curry and drinking some homemade Mango Lasse and it occurred to me. I bet a lot of you have never encountered this wonderful drink. You can get it from the shops, but it's dear and nowhere near as good. It's healthy, tastes great and is dead easy to make. Ingredients; 850g / 1 lb 14 oz of Mango Pulp 425g / 1 lb of Natural Yogurt (preferably live and set) 1 Tablespoon of Sugar (optional) Milk (between 1 and 5 cups) A Handful of Ice cubes (or crushed ice) The milk affects the thickness, I use 1 to 2 cups to get a milkshake-like consistancy. Directions 1) Throw it all in a blender and Whiz it about. 2) Put the Ice in into a 1 Litre jug and pour over the mix 3) Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes 4) Stir before serving. Don't expect it to last, it's very moreish. posted by Marl64 |

A generic term which describres the cuisine of India, Pakistan and the surrounding areas. It is the most popular type of food in the U.K. And I live in the best place for it. bradford.gov.uk... the phrase "drink of the gods" was coined by a friend of mine when he first tried it, he described it as the most delicious thing he'd ever tasted. Other comments include "It's like the drink is having sex with my taste buds" and "this stuff is so good it should be illegal". posted by Marl64 |

I KNOW! I LOVE THIS DRINK. Costs 2 dollars at this Indian store near my house, and the curries there aren't half-bad but I just go for the lasses. There's a McDonalds next to it and I just look at the people with their crappy watered down cokes while I drink my superb lasse and think "this is fantastic, I'm in heaven." posted by hungarian kid |

mango lasse ♣ mango lassi ♣ Both work. I suspect it's a regional thing. The point is, however it's spelt, it's a damned fine drink and anyone who's not tried it is missing out on something special. It's like they're suffering without realising it. posted by Marl64 |

Quote: it's a damned fine drink and anyone who's not tried it is missing out on something special So there was me... sitting yesterday night... reading your post... rushing out to the next shop and mixing me this fine drink. Although I only had Mango juice, no Mango pulp. Does that change the thing a lot? PS: I like that drink posted by knn |

knn: Although I only had Mango juice, no Mango pulp. Does that change the thing a lot?
PS: I like that drink I would imagine the main difference would be consistency - mango pulp is a bit thicker. I use tinned pulp 'cos I'm lazy, but the traditional way is to peel and pulp the Mangos yourself. There's also a chance Mango juice contains loads of other stuff - Mango pulp is just Mango. But the taste should be similar. Glad you liked it. bbc.co.uk... - Doesn't make much, you'll be back in the kitchen every five minutes. aaindiangrocery.com... - Not the cheapest around. I pay around £1.30 (Currently $2.40 US) for an 850g Tin posted by Marl64 |
