One of the most compelling observations is that back then, with the technology they had, they were able to get to the moon and back on their first attempt without any major problems. Twenty years later, technology had advanced beyond all recognition and yet they couldn't get the hubble into orbit without making a complete mess of it. Does this mean that as technology has improved, the quality of scientists, technicians and other staff has gone through the floor? posted by Marl64 |

 ...more a case of as technology increases then so do the oportunities for it to go wrong, but yeah i agree, a lot of peeps fall back on computers when they could use their head to solve the problem. Everything is being done for us so we are loosing the skill of our brain. posted by Crossfade |

Besides: Those are uncomparable issues. Comparisons to "Exploring the deep sea" don't fit, too. Seriously though, sure people died prior to the mission, during tests and whatnot. But of the people who launched in an attempt to reach the moon; How many only made it into orbit? How many only made it half way? How many made it to the moon but didn't get back? Interestingly this leads nicely onto... Lunar Conspiracy Theory (Part 2 - Apollo 13) There is another claim made by the conspiracy types. After Apollo 11, interest in the space program started to decline. As America is the "TV Nation" heavily guided by ratings and public interest, there was the question of budgets. As it declines in popularity, would the government start to reduce funding? Interest in the Launch of Apollo 13 was nowehere near that of Apollo 11 - Until the Accident

Noone has the technology, flying to the moon was a piece of cake comparing to having a moon base there. Indeed, we are still decades away from being able to do this without it costing billions upon billions. Even then, the only people to go would be HIGHLY screened scientists/military personnel. The only way the normal person is getting anywhere near space in the next 50 years is commercial enterprises. Even that would just be to orbit the earth and would likely cost $10,000 or so at the minimum. As soon as megacorps realize that there are trillions upon trillions of dollars in metals/ores/etc in asteroids, and put money into mining operations that are manned or robot-run then there is hope for our future in space. --- speaking of the fake landing, has anyone seen the southpark episode where the boys were trying to build a ladder to heaven, then they got backed by the US government to compete against Japan for being the first to reach heaven? i just thought about that after reading this thread, the tv footage of Japan in heaven. haha posted by allone |

 hungarian kid: t's been proven that alot of the footage of the Lunar landing was actually shot (in a Hollywood studio) befor the take off because they knew their camera's couldn't take alot of the pressure from the moon's environment.
