»Illegal Drugs and how they got that way«

Recently watched a (History Channel) series which explained why "recreational" drugs are banned (in the U.S.A.) - And it has nothing to do with them being bad for you.

It also points out that anti-drug laws are unconstitutional since the constitution grants U.S. citizens the right to put what ever chemical into their body that they choose.

In almost every case, legislation was introduced to target a particular minority group to political ends - Mexicans, Blacks, Chinese etc.

But since anti-drug laws were unconstitutional, they used phoney tax laws to enforce the ban - you can't have the drug unless you pay tax on it, but you don't pay tax on it until you have it. Catch 22.

Most of these tax laws were later repealed by the supreme court (for being nonesence) and many "banned" drugs were once again legal in the sixties.

Nixon, however had other ideas - empowering the drug administration with new "drug control" laws.

That's why the official charge is "posession of a controlled substance" rather than "posession of illegal drugs".

Drugs aren't actually illegal, they are just subject to government control White laugh

It also shows how political propaganda was used to change public opinion on what was once acceptable behaviour. Yes drug use was once as socially acceptable as drinking wine - More so during prohibition.

It's a great series and while it points out the futility of drug legislation, it also highlights the dangers of the more dangerous substances.

I'd recommend it to anyone who'd like to find out the truth.
Thumb Up

Sure it hasn't. If it was to the government everybody would be drugged AND addicted. That way they could control the masses much better.

its simple

its simple when you think about it

most stoners are fuckin lazy gypsy job shy bastards...and that's when they are not stoned

legalising it would create a nation of job shy half wits and the countries economy would colapse cause nobody could be arsed to any work for being stoned
